TTT had a very Aaron Smith type game. When I first saw him play, I thought he was a Smith clone. Usually it takes about 3/4 years for the real deal halfbacks to get settled in at Super level, so hopefully this is his breakout year.

@nepia If it was already in the receivers hands before Leitch released it, how did it travel forward?

Where did I say that? However, if we follow that reasoning, it's fine for a team to pass the ball forwards in a maul as long as the person passing it forwards doesn't release it until he's got his hands on it?

If that happened, would it be a forward pass?

    Absolutely.

It's been in the rule book for a century. Handing the ball to a person in front of you is a forward pass. It does not matter that it never leaves contact.

In general play it's two offences as a team mate in front of the ball player is offside, and liable for penalty, so taking part in play by touching the ball is definitely out.

I think it has been tidied in the new law book. 'pass' includes handing the ball.
You cannot deliberately make a forward pass (which it must be if the player is in front). Even if it is touch and go and the ref won't rule as deliberate the there is the option of offside. Both are penalty offences.

Edit: I guess there is also the option of accidental offside resulting in a scrum (like a normal forward pass) - probably the fairest option

@dice Sunwolves are going to improve unless they can get some alignment with/help from, the Japanese Top League.

As for TTT he was excellent but it was a game perfectly suited to his game - be nice to see him push for more gametime against decent opposition.

@nepia So when the ball left Leitch's hands, it traveled forward? And that was clear and obvious?

It's about as far from the worst non call ever as you can get.

Oh FFS, did it go forward from Leitch to try scorer? Yes, because the try scorer was in front of Leitch when he received the ball. If you don't think that is clear and obvious you can borrow my -9 contact lenses if you like.

Was it the worst non call ever? Sheesh, we all use a little hyperbole on the fern.

And we all know the real "worst non call ever" even if it happened in a game otherwise expunged from our memories.

    2c worth ..

    1. Loves the crowd howling for the Wolfies

    2. T-cubed sounds like Aaron Smith with his screaming

    3. T-cubed is FAB

    4. First Wolfies try ridiculously forward pass by Leitch to Masirewa. Fucking stoopidly forward. Ref TMO and AR should be stood down and sent back to under 7s for that non-call.

    5. I noticed Laban calling Brodie "Rettal-LICK" as opposed to "Ret-AL-ick". Laban does take pronunciation seriously. Wondering if we've been getting it wrong?

It will be the League version of his name.

One big positive about DMacs day at 10 was the way he was unlocking the defence with passes. I did hold my breath on a couple but when it works it works

Fantastic forward pass. One of the best seen by everyone except the officials.

And why is Marty McKenzie there at full back? What does he offer?

The opportunity for DMac not to be?

Ngatai is expected to be available for the Landers game so should slot back at FB.

MMac is not really super rugby standard but I don't expect him to be close to the top XV.

I noticed that as well, I also noticed his pronunciation of Alaimalo - which I think we're on safer ground to say he's probably saying it correctly. Emphasis and long sound on the 'a' in malo.

@shadowtrooper when Caucau tried to make a come back a few years ago he did the same thing, oddly, the ball did go backwards out of his hand as he handed it 'back' to a guy almost an arms length in front of him, but the TMO called it back as a forward pass.
