    @tim

The tweaked rule book has made the game faster, and the players are now stronger and more powerful than ever. The injury toll reflects this.

"It is really, really physical football," Robertson said.

"Fitter and faster, especially in these early rounds. You collect a few injuries and your squad gets tested. Look at the Chiefs, they have had an incredible amount of injuries. It all compounds. But you have to have the next man ready, and the next man in.

Razor links the injury toll to the changed rules. He may have a point. If speed increases, you're bound to get more collisions and mistakes.

Has this year been unusually bad for injuries, or is it just that more prominent players have been injured?

I think it's the latter. Just remember how many injuries the Highlanders had at the beginning of the season, this time last year. But maybe it has been worse the last few years compared to previous years?

@stargazer Rebels are another team that had a horrendous injury toll last season.

That news about Mo'unga sucks big time, by the way. If it can take up to 2 months to heal from his surgery, he may not have enough time to stake his claim for the AB 22 jersey or even a spot in the squad. Unless they give Sopoaga an extended AB life, it's not good for the ABs in the short term (the tests v France) either. And despite Hunt's qualities, it will hurt the Saders, too.

I hate all these injuries to players. There are too many (I already lost count of the number of Kiwi players in the injury ward), and those rule tweaks from the last few years don't seem to have decreased the injury toll at all. Not even the number of head injuries.

Jordan Taufua: eye and foot injury. He thinks he'll be okay for the Hurricanes v Crusaders game.

"It was just a bruise under my heel," Taufua said. "I think the sprig, when I threw an offload, it just came up. I will be alright, just a bit of ice and it will be sweet."

While his eye injury - which required a couple of stitches and was not the result of foul play - might reduce his field of vision for a few days, he said it wouldn't be an issue ahead of their round-four game at the Cake Tin.

"It was in a lineout, I think I got kicked in the face or something like that. I am not too sure, I just ended up coming-up and seeing red. It was one of their guys … It all happened real quick. You just get up and get back into the line."

    Cough Rob Thompson cough.

Rob Thompson, the new Charlie Ngatai!

Jordie Barrett is the new Charlie.

According to the boosters he can play all the backline equally well. Well before he's played them however.

Both very gifted players of course. Perhaps starters. If either could last a season without breaking.

Now, he'll have company on the pine for the year with the side announcing young prop Atu Moli would miss the remainder of the campaign after undergoing surgery to repair complications on a haematoma in his quad.

The club suffered another big blow to their season during the Blues clash with fellow prop Nepo Laulala sustaining a fracture to his forearm that will require surgery to repair. As a result, he was expected to miss 8-12 weeks of action.

I’m trying to work out how a haematoma which is basically a large clot keeps you out for a whole season.

Surgery and complications in the article -- but weird. Maybe a bit more than a bruise eh. Any doctors around who could shed some light on this?

Losing Moli is a blow to not just the Chiefs, but also the ABs. We have so little depth at looesehad and if Hames is suffering from concussion symptoms, who knows when he will be back. Was hoping Moli would have a good Super season in 2018 and prove himself as a loosehead. Now there is only Moody and not much below him.

Is there an up-to-date injury list somewhere? SANZAAR used to keep one until 2016 I think, but seem to have abandoned it.

Ok well that sounds like crap...

So the Chiefs are now missing their top 4 props. If Kautai isn”t fit for the Bulls game then Ta”avao will be the starting TH prop. So fuck!

Who has those injury lists? FFS between the Blues, Chiefs and Crusaders alone you could make a winning franchise called The Invalids

Injury update Chiefs (from their instagram):

Thanks to our Whanau for all your concern regarding our player injuries. Here’s an update on where they're at. The players really appreciate your kind thoughts and words of encouragement, please leave your messages of support for them below Chiefs fans!
Shaun Stevenson – injured his knee in the warm-up and will be assessed this week
Nepo Laulala – fractured forearm requiring surgery and is expected to be out for 8-12 weeks
Brodie Retallick – withdrew from Friday’s match after getting a poke in the eye at training. He has completely recovered and will be available for selection next week
Atunaisa Moli – had complications from a quad hematoma which required surgery. Atu has been ruled out for the season.
Tim Nanai-Williams – had surgery on Friday to stabilise his shoulder. Tim has been ruled out for the season.
We wish you all a quick and speedy recovery. Kia Kaha boys.

And yes, that was all they wrote. Nothing about the other injured players.
