@kiwimurph The Herald does a terrible job promoting, or even linking to, their podcasts. It's moved to "Spreaker" now.

Fuck, that's just really bad luck for the lad. This might cost him that AB 22 jersey if he needs surgery.

A suspected broken jaw could force Richie Mo'unga to take a lengthy break from the Crusaders' Super Rugby campaign.

First five-eighth Mo'unga had to leave AMI Stadium in the final minutes of the Crusaders' 45-28 win over the Stormers in Christchurch on Saturday night, having suffered his injury while attempting to prevent Stormers replacement prop Steven Kitshoff from scoring a try.

Crusaders coach Scott Robertson said Mo'unga was taken straight to hospital for X-rays, but it was too early to state how long he will be unavailable for. If surgery is required, the All Black could potentially be out of action for several months.

    Also:

Mo'unga joins fellow All Blacks Kieran Read, Matt Todd, Israel Dagg, Owen Franks, Joe Moody and Tim Perry in the Crusaders' casualty ward.

Blindside flanker Pete Samu had to be replaced in the second half after injuring his shoulder, and midfielder Ryan Crotty was taken off the park because of cramps in his calf muscle.

Bugger, i was thinking during the game how we probably weren't going to miss Lima that much for the ABs because Mounga is a very similar player who could actually be or become an upgrade. I hope he isn't out too long. Dmac as back up AB 10 is not something that fills me with confidence.

Rebels fans should cherish this table, because it won't last. They've only played the Reds and Sunwolves. Next week they'll play the Brumbies at home, and the Tahs away a week later. Reality may only set in in week 6 when they'll host the Sharks, or week 7 when they take on their first Kiwi team (Canes).

Has this year been unusually bad for injuries, or is it just that more prominent players have been injured?

    @tim

The tweaked rule book has made the game faster, and the players are now stronger and more powerful than ever. The injury toll reflects this.

"It is really, really physical football," Robertson said.

"Fitter and faster, especially in these early rounds. You collect a few injuries and your squad gets tested. Look at the Chiefs, they have had an incredible amount of injuries. It all compounds. But you have to have the next man ready, and the next man in.

Razor links the injury toll to the changed rules. He may have a point. If speed increases, you're bound to get more collisions and mistakes.

I think it's the latter. Just remember how many injuries the Highlanders had at the beginning of the season, this time last year. But maybe it has been worse the last few years compared to previous years?

@stargazer Rebels are another team that had a horrendous injury toll last season.

That news about Mo'unga sucks big time, by the way. If it can take up to 2 months to heal from his surgery, he may not have enough time to stake his claim for the AB 22 jersey or even a spot in the squad. Unless they give Sopoaga an extended AB life, it's not good for the ABs in the short term (the tests v France) either. And despite Hunt's qualities, it will hurt the Saders, too.

I hate all these injuries to players. There are too many (I already lost count of the number of Kiwi players in the injury ward), and those rule tweaks from the last few years don't seem to have decreased the injury toll at all. Not even the number of head injuries.

Jordan Taufua: eye and foot injury. He thinks he'll be okay for the Hurricanes v Crusaders game.

"It was just a bruise under my heel," Taufua said. "I think the sprig, when I threw an offload, it just came up. I will be alright, just a bit of ice and it will be sweet."

While his eye injury - which required a couple of stitches and was not the result of foul play - might reduce his field of vision for a few days, he said it wouldn't be an issue ahead of their round-four game at the Cake Tin.

"It was in a lineout, I think I got kicked in the face or something like that. I am not too sure, I just ended up coming-up and seeing red. It was one of their guys … It all happened real quick. You just get up and get back into the line."

    Cough Rob Thompson cough.

Rob Thompson, the new Charlie Ngatai!

Jordie Barrett is the new Charlie.

According to the boosters he can play all the backline equally well. Well before he's played them however.

Both very gifted players of course. Perhaps starters. If either could last a season without breaking.
