The Hurricanes squad for South Africa and Argentina is: Forwards; Toby Smith, Chris Eves, Ben May, Fraser Armstrong, Alex Fidow, Ricky Riccitelli, James O'Rielly, Sam Lousi, Murray Douglas, Michael Fatialofa, Vaea Fifita, Brad Shields (c), Ardie Savea, Gareth Evans, Blade Thomson; Backs, TJ Perenara, Jamie Booth, Beauden Barrett, Ihaia West, Ngani Laumape, Matt Proctor, Vince Aso, Wes Goosen, Julian Savea, Ben Lam, Jackson Garden-Bachop, Jonah Lowe.
Not being up-to-date with reading the latest rugby news, I'm surprised to see Eves in the squad. Apparently, the injury suffered in the game v the Blues wasn't as serious as the dramatic pictures in the media suggested? Btw, the squad looks seriously light in the front row (and I don't mean their weight).
Good to see Lowe in the squad, but surprised to see him referred to as a wing in the Hurricanes announcement. Hope he'll make his SR debut in the next two weeks, but not holding my breath.

@snowy Highlanders. Isn't that part of the country where you are these days? I'll take that beer when I pass through Queenstown and Tekapo.
I wish I lived down there. Too cold for the wife at the moment another year or so it should be gold. I do visit regularly.
Highlanders are a good choice. Low expectation and high reward last few years. I also think they have a great "culture".
So the 'canes - tough to give up the homeland? I know that I am usually taking the piss, but that is a genuine one and I will buy you a beer at some mutually convenient time and place.

Blues could use an extra loose forward if he wants to stick around a week or two!

The visitors will be without utility back Tim Nanai-Williams, who looked sharp during the Brisbane Tens, but then injured his shoulder against the Brumbies and is to be assessed this week, as to whether he'll need surgery. Fellow back Sam McNicol (concussion) and props Mitchell Graham (leg) and Sefo Kautai (foot) are the others who won't be considered this weekend.
Meanwhile, Cooper confirmed the Chiefs were keen on pursuing Etene Nanai-Seturo – the 18-year-old New Zealand Sevens rep who had been linked to them during the code-hopping contract row between New Zealand Rugby and the Warriors, which last Friday was eventually put to bed with a release granted from the NRL club.
"Those conversations are happening, that's all I know, I'm afraid. Is he going to join the Chiefs this year – no. Obviously he's a future player, and hopefully that's working for the Chiefs."

Should a team lose two props to injury and one more to a yellow or red card, they will then be forced to play with 13 players.
This seems like overkill ...

Speaking of scrums, has anyone seen a scrum win against the feed now they can feed
into the second rowunder their hooker's feet..? -

into the second rowunder their hooker's feet..?I saw a scrum reset because the hooker was so contorted trying to scrum with a leg in the middle that his side could get no power on. The ball got stuck in the second row.
I believe the top refs have tried to emphasise a straight put in if the foot is up.
Does eem crazy to allow foot up.
Trying to avoid the times when the ball is sitting in the tunnel going nowhere because no one can hook under pressure I guess. -
plenty of scrums the ball does go down the centre and just sit there as there is no strike as both teams are so even matched they seem to be afraid of striking and losing a bit of power and the scrum
-
I'm happy to see two packs at it like that. The pain in their legs. Means when the ball comes out for a phase or two there's more room.

This new law would make Dave Rennie bloody angry if he was still a Super coach.
-
@no-quarter maybe thats why he left?
Although TBF, wasnt it the accusations of manipulating the uncontested scrums rule that made him bloody angry, not the uncontested scrums?

Um, super rugby started last weekend! The fuck?
