That was a really, really special innings from Guppy. He and Munro had the Aussies seriously rattled for most of that innings with largely good cricket shots. Really stoked I saw that live.
I think bringing out Seifert and Chapman after Munro got out was a poor decision, that was the perfect time to bring out CDG and give him a couple of overs to get set. Despite Roscos 6s it was a limp finish to the innings overall, but still 243 should have been more than enough...
...and then the fielding effort. Sheesh. In some defense of our bowlers, bloody Short basically edged his way to his first 30-40 runs getting them ahead of the run rate. Was frustrating as hell, and then Warner got going and they got their tails up.
I agree with @Siam's post earlier in the thread though, I think Kane's captaincy has a long way to go, and there were a number of more than questionable decisions throughout. Wheeler got tonked but it was Kane that kept bowling him despite having viable options to take the pace off the ball. Also, watching Short edge everything I missed McCullum's attacking mindset and fields - early wickets and it's game over but we didn't capitalise.
But overall you do have to give credit where it's due, that was some chase by the Aussies. It appears at this point that they have a great test and T20 team, but shit ODI team. Probably need a couple of their T20 players in their ODI side (Maxwell, Short).
/rant: why the fuck do they play music after EVERY single ball?? I was going to say the atmosphere was awesome, especially when Guppy and Munro were going, but it wasn't because of the bloody music killing it after every shot. Also meant you couldn't have a proper conversation with the bloke next to you. Am I just getting old? Do people really want constant music blurting out at a sporting event? For me it kills the atmosphere dead, which is a shame as it was an awesome crowd last night.

Depends what the music is. If it's the exponents or the God awful 'Hey Baby ( oooo ha ) I wanna knoooooooow, will you be my girl' then I'm with ya 100%.

@no-quarter Since the beginning of time Eden Park has favoured the slower bowlers. It was a mystifying decision not to bowl Munro or even have an over for the captain himself. Why not a slip or two when Short was getting all those jammy runs? At least he would have thought about the risk of getting out and it might have affected his play. Kane just couldn't react to stop the bleeding
-
I haven't watched too much of Seifert but is he sloppy behind the stumps? The little bit I have seen suggests he is not the tidiest.
-
Yeah.. we really missed Santner. More like Santner missed out on getting tonked a Eden Park, gets his chance tonight.

Also still a better economy rate than Wheeler

You're setting the bar extraordinarily low...

Who is our bowling coach?

I was just about to post an assumption that we didn't have one

@Donsteppa
Shiiiiiite....it is Kyle Mills..... -
To be fair, we've smacked shit out of the England and Aus bowlers since the competition moved to NZ.
But, we don't bowl smart, we seem to try and over-complicate the hell out it when full and straight is generally the best tactic. I hear the comms say that if you bowl full and straight the batsmen will play a ramp shot, but seriously, how often to you see 4 - 6 successful ramp shots in a row? Far prefer the batsmen going for that then smacking it to all corners.
-
@baron-silas-greenback That explains a lot!

@donsteppa oh shut up you dirty jinxer
