This basically signals he doesn't think he's a shot at being the next ABs coach after 2019.

I wonder if the feeling is that Foster is basically a lock for the role?

@tim I wish I could upvote that more than once!

It would be great if they let the JABs play the Pacific Nations Cup again; although the PNC now serves as a double for RWC qualfication. Or other credible opponents; I much more prefer the JABs as an AB development tool than the Maori ABs (and the Barbarians). If South Africa 'A', England 'A', Emerging Italy, Argentina XV etc etc can have games each year, then why not the JABs? Letting them regularly play the PI teams and the forementioned 'A' teams can only be good, can't it? I assume it doesn't happen for financial reasons? There's no reason why they can't have regular training sessions with the ABs, if separating fringe ABs from the first choice squad is a concern.

Boyd's comments are no different to any other coach who has left recently (e.g. Rennie, Joseph). But it does indicate that the Super coaches don't really have much say in the plans for the ABs each season. There is little or no compromise.

Unless NZR soften their stance on only selecting coaches from within the NZ rugby system for the ABs, and I think there has been suggestions they will in time, then a coach like Boyd needs to decide whether it is better to get an overseas coaching position and the better salary that comes with it, or stay in NZ with no guarantee of getting the AB job anyway.

It's not just Hansen, look how long Tew has been in charge of NZR now.

Couple of journos at Chiefs training today have confirmation from Charlie Ngatai that he'll be leaving NZ rugby at the end of the season. Can't confirm the French club until contract is finalised.

Farewell Prince of Centres. A true All Black great. Who'll fill the massive void in the All Black midfield now?

@wurzel An All Black great? With one cap, hmm. An All Black could-have-been-great more likely. Oh, damn, that wasn't meant serioulsy, was it? I always fall for it without emojis.

Your sarcasm is a day late, we did this yesterday.

@nepia Tough day for you no doubt realising you're going to have to spend the rest of life defending McAlister and now Ngatai across both forums.

Why would Ngatai need defending? As noted yesterday he's a dead set AB legend.

@sammyc You guys are getting pathetic now (considering how quickly the wagons circle in your neck of the woods ;)), anyway, I was defending Justin Marshall the other day (can't remember the context, but I'm assuming it wasn't for commentating).

well well, the Crusaders win one (forgettable) title in a decade, and out come the Crusaders fans, like cockroaches after you turn the lights out. Sad.

Seriously? one small dig at nepia and you ride in like a knight in shining armour to reprimand everyone involved like a primary school headmaster.

I’ve hardly commented on the crusaders since we won the title. I was a shitload more vocal when we were losing.

What’s really sad is the constant wanking over Ngatai for the past 2 seasons that he’s hardly played.

@mn5 wondered how long before you commented on this...

I actually feel in this instance given the help and loyalty shown by NZR he should have given a bit more back to super rugby and a decent tilt at the ABs, that said, I know he is only a knock away from no more rugby, or worse so understand from that perspective.

I've had a fair bit on today. Not much fern time. Sorry about that. I'll always find time in a busy schedule to have a whinge about him though.

    @taniwharugby

He's played 8 years of Super rugby (even taking into account time away due to injury) and won everything there is to win. Cash in now.
