@cgrant the AB selectors arent put off by woeful performances at 10 for the Maori. Just ask DMac...

That was a woeful decision to even play him at 10 in that game. Chuck a guy into a position he has played in for some time among a one off team with little cohesion and a forward pack that was always going to struggle to get parity.

He wasn't much chop, but I wouldn't read much into it.

Just to cheer everyone up Munster Rugby have signed 2 promising SA schoolboys to their academy...

Very odd one that. They’re now applying to overseas academies?

The IRFU need to centralize the provincial academies into some kind of national academy and players get assigned accordingly. None of this overseas bollocks should be happening given what Leinster are producing.

Jerome Kaino to Toulon should be official in the coming hours/days.

Because he deserves the golden egg retirement package. He was a colossas as an AB but is surplus to requirements now. A 'nice to have' as back up but not needed for the future.

    I'm stoked for him

Agreed. The difference between him and Lima is Jerome leaves the jersey in a better place. Not so sure that he is surplus to requirements, but the contenders have another two seasons to make their case and grow into the role.

I only say STR due to him being fully fit and well and not making the 23 in 2017 in some games. I think we could all see the writing was on the wall

I thought he basically had a decent break last year which would see him well for the next year or so. I will be pissed if I see him carving up for Toulon and our new 6s don't come up to standard.

They are already up to standard. Our blindsides had a great season.

Our blindsides were fine, but I don't think any of them had a 'great' season (obviously including Kaino).

I thought they did. They were better than what Kaino is currently.

I don't think we should get all DC syndrome here expecting an exact replacement after a legend retires. They play slightly differently than Kaino did but are a much better now for the AB's now than Kaino currently is.

the fuck they did! It's a glaring hole in our team.

But, not sure we can keep going back to Jerome, he's served his time with more than distinction. Have fun Jerome, take that coin

@mariner4life I thought at times all those that played at 6 had their moments but lacked consistency, although none played the way we have come to be accustomed to from Jerome, and as is inevitable you always compare don't you.

I think Cane fits the defensive game that Jerome played better than the other options we had/have.

@hooroo I don't agree with you (his form has always been better than some pundits claim), but as ML4 says, happy for JK to collect his coin (he may need if for his marriage issues).

I've always been a fan of Squire and he was good in parts but he's not the complete package. Maybe 2018 is the year of:

Plus lets be honest his form is on the slide now, we are all happy for him to cash in for the years he has left playing.

Personal favourite moment was during 2011 WC Final some Frenchie goes for the line from a few meters out, Kaino the last defender just beast him back 10 yards after stopping him dead. You can't teach that just pure unadulterated strength!

It would be sad if 2017 was the year JK went out on.
I think him not having any form is a bit of a myth.
He got subbed at 45mins in the first Lions test after playing well then got taken off after SBW had his brain explosion, which i think was a huge mistake in the context of that game and the series. He was pretty unlucky to cop a yellow in the third test and then the affair thing happened and he was given time off but then seemed to get a bit of a cold shoulder from the coaches for the rest of the year even though there were times he should have been in the 23. So really he hardly played, mainly due to non form related issues.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him go but i would rather he stayed because outside Read and Cane our loosies are pretty green.

JK had some superlative moments against Lions, despite missing a lot of minutes for various reasons. Great servant of NZ rugby.

Highlights a challenge for Hansen et al: you want to play best squad, but that does nothing for the job security of number two and, more particular, three, which leaves them vulnerable to poaching once they've reached their mid-twenties.
