One thing I did read was that after the first world war someone did an analysis of first class batsmen who fought in the war and a significantly higher proportion of left handers were killed than right handers.

They attributed it mainly to military gear being designed for right handers e.g. rifle bolts, but presumably in trenches there were spyholes and suchlike also designed for people who were right eye dominant and the poor old lefties had half their heads exposed whilst peering through.

66 right hand batsmen meet the same criteria of 5000 runs.

But of them I think only 1, Michael Clarke, was left handed.

    Tendulkar was a lefty too.

No, he bowled right arm. Either medium pace or wrist spin.

Depends on how you define a lefty.
I'm a lefty, but when batting and bowling, I was a righty.

Bowling style Right-arm offbreak, Legbreak googly

I remember his bowling was described in an indian program as left/right fast medium off leg spin 😛

"The Black Caps swept the floor of the West Indies"

That was nice of them. Taking the ABs sweeping the changing room to another level.

Boult sure did get them wickets quickly. I can't believe he only debuted six years ago!

CDG is out of the series, he’s off to Zimbabwe after the death of his father.

His replacement is a like for like replacement drum roll please, none other than All Rounder Doug Bracewell...

Yet in the same article they quote Larsen as saying that Kuggeleijn isn’t a genuine option as an allrounder at international level.

    Excuse me, what?

Don’t have an issue with Bracewell being picked, but come on a genuine all rounder he is not! He’s a bowler who can swing the bat ala Southee and Boult.

Looking forward to Wednesday’s game, a mate with people in high places got us good tickets. It’s been a long time between drinks for Cobham Oval.

Ryder is still kicking around the domestic scene isn't he? Should chuck him in for the ODI series and watch the Fern melt down.

It would take you right back to the 80s to see some fat guy amble out to the middle after putting down his beer can and proceeding to cane the bowlers.

I loved Adam Parores article from years ago when he said Ryder needed to get in condition, lose weight etc.

The fact that he was way better than Ads despite being fat and pissed made for great reading.

Being fat (and in some cases pissed) didn't stop the likes of Boon, Gatting, Ranatunga, Warne or WG Grace)

@gunner He certainly hasn't done anything much at international level to demonstrate he's a genuine allrounder.

However, if you remove his test innings from the record, he actually averages around 35 in domestic first class cricket. On that score he's probably a better batsman than Kuggeleijn, (and at that lower level his record's not too far short of CDGH) so I can sort of see why Larsen might be indulging in what's probably wishful thinking!

If he wants to play much more international cricket, Bracewell certainly needs to show that he can bat at international level.

Fat Jesse - I reckon he's a case study for why sports teams should enforce no dickheads policies.

As any avid reader of The Grade Cricketer will tell you, the days of the fat star are goooorn. These days, your chances of selection are directly tied to the standard of your rig. A sloppy rig isn't getting you out of the 3rds, let alone internationals.

He should be it's an international representative side not a franchise - he is at worst the third best batsman in the country.
