What's the story behind the Scottish coach? I think NZ will have a much better season going on this tournament's performance

Im not sure but him asking at the end of the half time team talk: "anyone want to come off", was a little unusual.

Yeah, the reason I'm asking was because I heard "Continue to do what you are doing, but faster" at half time, and I was like wtf? Is that actual coaching input or fluff? They look to be better in a lot of aspects this year, just not convinced with the coach just yet.

@pn All I know is that he has played sevens himself for Scotland and that he has been part of the Hurricanes coaching set-up previously.

Really don't know why they went to 7 minute halves for finals. The excuse was injuries I think, but with the two best teams playing and the flukey nature of sevens it made it more of a contest and gave more of a chance to get back in the match. 10 minute halves were heaps better I reckon. Tough on the players but they don't play again.

AB sevens starting to believe again and building - I hope.

Thanks. I googled to see why, but didn't see that. Just the injury thing.

IOC can now fuck up the game as well as IRB / world rugby. Great.

Great video. Shows clearly why sevens requires different fitness levels and skills than XVs. Also shows why the AB7s could use a few players with more speed than many of the current players.

Watch: The beauty of Sevens from the sky

The nature of the Sevens game can be appreciated much more from the sky, where you can see just how difficult it is to contain players in open space.

That means he'll miss at least the first day of the Cape Town 7s this weekend. I assume Kurt Baker will take his place in the squad.

@stargazer Says it al doesn't it? Hard to beat a team when they get three players into the team of the tournament to your one.

    @antipodean I'd say that's a pretty debatable one too.

All Blacks 7s squad for the Cape Town Sevens:

    1 Scott Curry
    2 Tim Mikkelson
    3 Teddy Stanaway
    4 Joe Ravouvou
    5 Dylan Collier
    6 Vilimoni Koroi
    7 Sam Dickson
    8 Andrew Knewstubb
    9 Regan Ware
    10 Kurt Baker
    11 Joe Webber
    12 Sione Molia

So despite his suspension, Ravouvou is still in the squad. Kurt Baker has been added, too.
Tone Ng Shiu and Isaac Te Tamaki not in the squad, so either injured or dropped.

    Pool games (in NZT):

    Saturday 9 December
    11.05pm: v USA

    Sunday 10 December
    2.26am: v Spain
    6.12am: v Australia

LIVE on Sky Sport Pop-up 2 (ch 56 or Sky Sport 6) on Day 1 and on Sky Sport Pop-up (ch 57 or Sky Sport 7) on Day 2.

I hoped last week that things had changed for the better, but so far it looks like the 2016-2017 season all over again.

    HT: USA 10 - 0 NZL

    Full time:
    USA 22 - 0 NZL

So disappointing. I used to get up at night to watch this team play; now, I'll just look up the results in the morning.

Well, that was shite. Give them centralized training base etc and things will improve the soothsayers said. Well they have got them (along with a non New Zealander as a coach) and we see this result. It is a complete and utter embarrassment, getting down troued by a USA team, minus Perry Baker, that did not even win a single match last week. Hang your heads in shame all those involved in this fiasco.
