Whiny Warren Gatland

I think Gatland got upset about one article that said something like "the Lions would target him as a weak spot, as he was a young, inexperienced 1st 5 facing international players." There wasn't much in it.
EDIT: This is the bit he objected too:
"I can give you an example - the day before the first game against the Barbarians the headline in the New Zealand Herald was 'Gatland to target Barbarians' weakness - his son'. I thought it was a disgusting sort of headline. [I was] gutted by that."
**Gatland v Gatland: Warren aiming at Bryn in Lions opener** Lions coach Warren Gatland says his son Bryn probably expects to make a few tackles against his side in tomorrow's tour opener. Gatland senior is going to instruct New Zealand-born second five-eighths Ben Te'o to angle back and target Bryn at No10 - an unusual state of affairs for a proud father to be masterminding a game plan affecting his son. But the aim is to try a strategy that will potentially neutralise the All Blacks' kingpin Beauden Barrett in the test series. "I spoke to him last night and he seems to be enjoying the week," Gatland said of Bryn. "We will catch up tomorrow. He probably expects to make a few tackles on the weekend but we haven't spoken too much about the game."
Gatland is a big sook.

Another moan:
"The last couple of weeks in terms of the criticism and personal attacks has been tough to take. Not so much for myself because that's part of sport but for family members," Gatland said.

@canefan fuck that! It's a no win job.
We win 99.9% of the games we play, and still the coaches get a whack from the public if we don't look like the personification of perfect rugby played by aggressive angels.
Lose? Hatchet jobs. Just win? Not god enough what are the coaches/selectors doing. Win by a shit load? Well, we just expect that.
I would take a high paying job where every success is celebrated, and winning more than you lose is brilliant.
Depends if he realistically wants to win a WC. If so, ABs it is.
What a difference 8 years makes

That "quote" that Gatland "quoted" never was. Read Paul Lewis's article.

``Gatland wasn't immune from flexible remembrances. He recalled the New Zealand Herald headline that disgusted him as "Gatland aims at Barbarians' weakness - his son". A search through Herald digital archives yielded no such headline.
"Gatland v Gatland - Bryn first piece in test jigsaw" was the Herald piece run on the day complained of - and it must be said media all round the world fastened on the unmissable angle of (player) son opposing (coach) father.``

@booboo interestingly the ferald and stuff have a habit of having a headline over the thumbnail of an article but you click into it and the headline is different, often the thumbnail headline is sensationalist, maybe that was it as I think after it is gone from the main page the actual headline only shows.

A couple of weeks back they had “ Lorde made me a believer “ and if you clicked on the link the other headline was “ I fought the Lorde and the Lorde won” . I didn’t click on the link my son did to wind me up over my deepseated loathing of both Lorde and puns .
Well he thought it was funny anyway. The hostile press meme probably has its roots in 2005 when they called Woodward, Campbell and BOD on their bullshit and smears which is their job and they were right to do so. Gatland actually looks like he might have some sort of personality disorder , quite bizarre behaviour really.

Why is he reading the paper anyway?
That's the part I never understood
He probably isn't, chances are one of his hangers on said some like "those fluffybunnies in the paper called your son the weak link in the team" and because he lives a stage of near permanent outrage over the mildest of slights or under appreciation of his coaching genius he would have gone nuts .
-
Worst part about him reacting like that , he is letting everyone know , you can get under his skin ,
And people take note of that , see it as a weakness , for perhaps another time
-
Could the Herald pukes make their contempt for these ABs any more obvious right now?
-
@salacious-crumb Yep, they've gone a bit loopy in the last few days.

Let’s not forget this pearl of wisdom of when we win by a lot that it’s “not good for the game”.
One of the more laughable things I’ve ever read.

It’s a typo obviously, when the abs reenact the love scene from deliverance on them “ it’s not good for their game”.
