@hydro11 oh yeh and McClenaghan, forgot him also. Hes the guy. Boult can be the tight one, Mitch/Wagner the aggro one, Milne the fast one. No place for a Southee plonker one.

We have a few blokes hovering around but nobody really screaming "PICK ME!". Will be interesting to see how it plays out this summer.

@hydro11 agree that Mitch would be a good option, he's a real wicket taker in the shorter forms. Milne has recently recovered from an elbow injury too so I wonder (hope) if his pace will increase as the tour goes on.

Brilliant first game. Where are all the posts knocking Latham now?? Stoked he seems to have found his niche. Nothing wrong with being more Sangakkara than Gilchrist. Great chance to win a series in India now!

That's a strange comment. Latham was terrible for a good chunk of last summer and deserved criticism. He has been replaced as an opener so now we have to use Munro there. He's a good player but his future probably has to be up the order as he is isn't seen as a long term keeper.

It's not strange at all. Despite his potential and, he's copped plenty on here with regards his ability to play ODIs, fullstop. I've always said he or Nicholls needed to be the ODI 'keeper.

Btw did Milne's pace pick up as he bowled more? He started off in the high 130s. If he's not going to bowl quick and unsettle guys then I don't think a first change Medium pacer averaging 37 is what we need.

Did people really dispute that Latham was a talented young player with a great future. I'm just saying that someone who averages about 10 over 10 ODIs is going to cop criticism and that criticism will stop once they hit a century.

He deserved the criticism last summer - he was terrible. Hopefully this means Latham can solve both the Black Caps' wicketkeeping and number five batting spot this summer.

we could at least try some of these other shit guys, if they're shit too we're not losing much - what about Ferguson, Wagner, for the one time in 10 games Southee does well, we'd get that from these others too, all while getting experience into them (mainly Ferguson in that sense)
    Southee is not the future.

Interesting that you say that Southee is not the future, yet bring up names of players that are older (Wagner, Mitch, both 31). In saying that, I wouldn't mind bringing in Wagner.
Ferguson (who is older than Milne) is 2 years younger than Southee, but he still has a loonnnnngg way to go. He's a poor mans Milne.
Southee is the 2nd best bowler we have available, so I would argue that we are losing a lot of experience, and leadership. If Mitch was available, then I would gladly drop Southee.

Only one of the teams I actively support won at the weekend. Didn't think it would be the Caps. Stoked that it was.

Likewise, in a weekend where the Black Caps played India in India, the Steamers played in a knockout game that wasn't a promotion-relegation game, and the All Blacks an Australian side that they were 2 - 0 up on... what were the odds of that win-loss outcome? Somehow all still feels right in the sporting world despite an All Blacks loss! 🙂

A bit of drama.... apparently the pitch curator has been suspended for alleged pitch tampering and banned from the stadium.

Match still to go ahead and should be news from the toss soon

27/3. Eek, should have given the ball to Boult to get us on the front foot early. Will need big runs from Rosco & Latham again to have a chance.

Do we never learn? Did the WC at the MCG not make us learn anything?!!!

@canefan do Black Cap supporters ever learn? It'll be 2-1 India at the end of this series. It's the Black Caps...
