The positivity in the face of misfortune is relentless but the All Blacks will do well to put a brave face on should Israel Dagg be ruled out of contention this week. The veteran wing is thought to be touch and go to be passed fit to play the Boks. The knee that has troubled him all year, and kept him out of the two Bledisloe Cup tests, has stiffened up again after his 55 minutes against the Pumas.

Reckon that gives even more reason to push BB to fb...is Reiko fit? Back 3 of him, BB and NMS....
-
Injured Jaco Kriel to return home
Kriel has a shoulder labrum tear. No replacement has been called up.

After watching last nights Canterbury v Counties-Manukau Shield Challenge, I was interested in the LH Prop matchup between the Blues Teammates Hodgman and Manu. I would have to say that Pauliasi Manu was a non-entity in a game where both sets of forwards needed to make their presence felt. Apart from the couple of penalties that Hodgman gave away, he was dominant all over the paddock. He is definitely a very athletic LHP who deserves a call up maybe on the All Blacks end of year Tour.

Considering Canterbury totally dominated Counties Manukau, as evidenced by the scoreline, the matchup was a non-event. All the CM forwards got dominated. Manu was not playing the Canterbury forward pack by himself.
Of course Hodgman looked better than Manu. -

Of course Hodgman looked better than Manu. Also very impressed by Oliver Jager he has a very high work rate. This is the difference between the Canterbury Front Row and every other Front Row in the Mitre 10 Cup. These guys are not just saving themselves for scrum time, extremely different fitness levels.

@number9 to be fair I've been impressed with the work rates of the Northland front rowers this year. Ross Wright in particular having a stellar season in the scrums and around the track.
Agreed. The Taniwha have looked good.

Dagg has no luck. That damned knee again ...

not really worth starting a whole new thread...

Hansen said Havili, who played so well for the Crusaders at fullback during their charge to the Super Rugby title, appeared ready for the next challenge in his career. "He's a confident young man, and plays like that," said Hansen. "He came in a little overawed, as all new All Blacks are. It can be really overwhelming. "But we've given him enough time to get through that phase of his All Black career, and he is now starting to train well, and looks more comfortable in the environment. We're looking forward to taking the next step with him."
"David has been in the environment long enough now to be comfortable and understand more about it, and now it's probably time to see him play a bit. We'll just take one step at a time."
Meanwehile, Hansen said he was pleased young prop Tyrel Lomax had been cleared to enter New Zealand rugby ahead of schedule after being released from his contractual obligations to Australia. "He's a New Zealander, so it's great he's coming home. I think he's a pretty handy rugby player. He was Australia under-20 player of the year in his term, and he can play tighthead, and they're a bit like hen's teeth in that they're hard to find. So it's nice to have another one." Hansen also admitted to some concern on high about the demise of the Auckland provincial team in 2017. "There's a lot of talent in Auckland, and what we've got to engineer is how we get that talent to have a work ethic so it can actually grow and bloom. Everyone is working hard to try do that."
