2 lame finals all up.
The women a 2-set snooze as per usual.
Roger cruising in 3 sets. Fantastic achievement all the same, my other country will be happy in the understated Swiss way that they celebrate sporting success.

Mainly because he can now ride off into the sunset with wounds largely healed, while for Rafa it's just "for once I didn't win".
Not just yet he ain't! He was in sublime form all Wimbledon tourney. He said he wants to defend this in 2018. Hope it happens.

I saw Fed on Friday. Sublimely elegant, but noticeably slower than a few years ago. Lost count of the shanked shots. The victory today (which owed an awful lot to Murray and Joker being crocked) shows that tennis standards are regressing significantly. The Fed of ten years ago would have beaten the 2017 version in three.
What has happened to mean the top 24 year olds no longer have the grit to see off the old timers -- too much money?
Venus is probably the best ladies grasscourter ever, but great for tennis that the 23 year old Spaniard put her away.

35 year old wins Wimbledon without dropping a set. That's ridiculous. Just imagine his record if Nadal wasn't around.
-
Amazing stuff by Federer. Being World No. 1 a real possibility too.
On Monday, Federer will be within 920 points of No. 2 Nadal and 1,205 points of current World No. 1 Andy Murray. But Federer has no points to defend for the remainder of the season, while Nadal has 370 points and Murray has a whopping 5,460 points to defend following his incredible run at the end of the 2016 season.

I said something similar while watching the final and received a reply that he might not have been so driven if he didn't have such a great rival? Still think he might have a few more though. Certainly made the sport a far better contest with both of them, and then chuck Joker and Murray in. Some of the greatest ever players all competing at the same time and a significant gap back to the rest.

@Rancid-Schnitzel
29 finals and 4 or 5 losses to Nadal. He'd have 4 French opens and have won I think 10 straight majors. But I agree that his legacy would be the poorer for not having the rivalry with Nadal, I think it strengthens both of them.

I see there's outcry about some foreigner "screeching" during play against Australia's top ranked woman Ashleigh Barty .
I don't know much about tennis etiquette although I recall this debate surrounding Seles years ago. Or is this more a hometown issue?

yea, someone is calling out the fuckheads. you're idiots
And that guy in the white is a complete douchebag. Youtube is fucking up the world. I just read an article on it, he carries on like he's some sort of hero for that. Jesus what i wouldn't have given for someone to give him a hiding.

Kyrgios is a complete tool but I’d have love to see him turn around and serve the ball in the direction of the fuckwit with the phone, ideally copping him right in his fucken face.
-
@jk I must attend sports with very different spectators. Most of the (middle aged) people I know would have grabbed his phone and broken it. He'd be lucky if they stopped there.
In an era of identity politics, it's surprising to me that people no longer seem to be punished for stepping outside of what is accepted as socially acceptable behaviour.

Maybe nick the rugby tenet, respect the kicker, respect the server. Once the ball's in play it's all on
I reckon this would be pretty good!
I think they are supposed to be quiet so they can here the calls of the umpire. May need to give them a whisle and a microphone

What Rugby tenet? If I've paid to be in the crowd, I'm entitled to offer advice to kickers before they kick. They can deal with it, it's why we go to live sport
