All Blacks vs. B&I Lions test #1

@Crucial that tackle from BBBR stood out to me during the game. Was saying to the wife, in a cool, calm and collected voice, "FFS WHO WANTS TO TACKLE THAT FUCKING fluffybunny!!! OH THANK FUCK FOR BIG BAD BRODIE!!!! SHEEESH."
-
In those clips and the breakout Lions try, I must say ALB looked really sluggish with his running. There were moments during the test where he looked a little lost as well.

I don't like Gats. If he was British I would dislike him immensely. That is all.

And if that one didn't empty your tanks watch this.
Dummy, step, fend, offload!
best lock ever. Anyone suggesting otherwise is deluded by nostalgia
UK press starting to say he's shaping that way.

That Read tackle on Farrell before that penalty was a beauty.
I loved seeing that little fluffybunny get what he deserved
Me, too!
What I liked was it showed that for all his skills Reado also has a mean streak. Farrell is no stranger to big hits (youtube), but that one hurt.
Also highlights what Luatua appears to lack, at least at this stage. -

Other than BBBR - that video shows A.Smith's split-second decision making... he's just drifting across ready for the next ruck - then sees a gap and BBBR with a hand just coming free... and he starts sprinting, knowing BBBR will get him the offload.
Fucking magic. -

Fucking magic.Would have been nice if he added an inside pass after getting the ball though.

Apparently the Manatee said that Whitelock was average and will likely be replaced by the end in the series.

Yes, he did. Was in his match ratings.

Yeah i picked up on that watching it live , we know about his ball in hand stuff , I wasnt aware there maybe some suss areas of his defense , on a few occasions he looked a little lazy.

30-15 and it could have been more. Great occasion. The Lions brought plenty, and had a good go, but these All Blacks are just too good.

Could have been more? Nz only left 3 points out there - through opting for a lineout drive.
Could have been plenty more for the Lions though.
He's being too generous.
It was a weird game.

The breakdown battle was always going to be crucial and the All Blacks dominated it. The speed at which they were entering rucks was phenomenal - they bullied the Lions.
For a team that has only played one game against a poor Samoan side, to have that level of cohesion and accuracy was seriously impressive. I thought they might be a bit rusty - wishful thinking!
I questioned whether Kieran Read would be up to Test match intensity after such a long period out injured but it just goes to show, he's not just a world class player, but a great captain and leader as well.
Read set the tempo from the off, and his side defended as if their lives depended on it. It was a big statement of their intent and the worrying thing for the Lions is that the All Blacks will be better again for the second Test this weekend.
The support lines that they run are excellent and it's probably something you may not fully appreciate unless you're at the game watching them closely. Every time a player in a black jersey gets the ball, there is someone running a brilliant line inside and outside them as well.
It's something that teams in the Northern Hemisphere don't do well enough. The anticipation and genuine belief that you will get an opportunity if you run hard with the ball-carrier is what separates New Zealand from the rest.
Alan Quinlan.
