Americas Cup

So now the desperation has gotten down to 'requesting' the judges to check everything meets the rule book. Looking for any chink they can legally use to declare the comp null and void. Obviously ETNZ have played the same card back at them in a counter move although I doubt much good can come of that.
If Larry loses this on the water he will go crying to the courtroom as he won't believe he got beaten under rules set up to ensure his own victory. -

Oracle seems to have closed the gap with their 5 days off.
Races were a lot tighter today.
TNZ lead 4-1We won the first race by 2 minutes
We're still getting it right a lot more than they are. No need to panic just yet.

Yeah, at this stage things look reasonably even as both teams can make errors which the other will win off.
If we get an even win/loss from here we take it out. -
We did drop 2 races each to BAR and Artamis so no need to panic.. yet
-
Still seemed like Burling out maneuvered Spithill in almost every phase today and just got unlucky with a dead spot of wind toward the end of race 2 there. Oracle are no doubt quicker than last weekend - but not so quick that ETNZ should not close this out.

Just beautiful start, hook by PB.
The redemption is huge for me, 14 years after we lost the cup, 16 years after losing another PB, 4 years after we lost in San Fran, we are dominating.
Redemption feels a little like 2011 and 2015...
Go NZ!In a way, I wish we could have 10 more races to really rub this dominance into Coutts' face, but let's just be pleased with the wins!

Im sure people were wishing San Fran was first to 7 instead of first to 9..
But yeah, some great sailing by PB and his team.. Another 100% fly time.. -
Interesting comment i heard this morning about Oracle.
They have spent the past few years and millions of dollars on tech, development and training for this campaign, yet in 5 days they find more speed.

What's the difference between the Skipper and the Helmsman. I assumed it was one of the same thing but I see someone else is skipper on Emirates
Ashby is TNZ skipper too, not Burling

@mimic almost like drugs in most high performance sports!! except they deny that's the case in most instances
I can tolerate the spying (just), but the litigation and just outright loading of rules etc to favour the holders really gets me. Sometimes it feels like the sailing is a sideline, then they get on the water and all that extra stuff falls away.
-
gotta say Burling is one cool operator!
Doesn't give much away.

Any footage yet of Coutts yelling at and abusing Spithill?

@taniwharugby Apparently they made the boat 100kg lighter by taking bits off it. But presumably those bits were doing something so maybe they sacrificed something else to do it.
Boats now looking very similar in speed but it doesn't look like Oracle can afford to lose the start. Wonder if the fact that the NZ roles are shared between Burling, Ashby and Tuke means they can react a lot quicker - especially as they all seem to be thinking the same way (given how much time Burling and Tuke have spent sailing together)
