MAGS won't allow Sky coverage of their home 1st XV games
Would be interesting if sky gave club rugby the First XV treatment. Choose 1 game a week and give it the good production treatment (a step up from Grassroots Rugby). There's plenty of local derbies, crunch games etc to choose from nationwide. Would get good crowds I reckon and look a good product in tv. Juding from Grassroots it seems the locals make an effort to turn up for that rare tv appearance by their club.
The reason I like watching the first Xv games on sky is;
- NPC had been hollowed out so missing those passionate local games
- watching a game in a packed out school field rather than a quarter full stadium.
- they're kits generally aren't terrible ....
With only 5 NZ pro teams there is sometines only 3 games a week with NZ involvement (if there is a SR NZ derby and/or a bye). Heaps of vacant weekend tv landscape from April to August.

Bloody hell, Hastings Boys is killing Palmy boys at the moment. It's a massacre!
Score?

PNBHS have had the Polson Banner for the last 3 years. Looks like it might go back to where it belongs when NBHS play them this year

And then Napier should man up and put it on the line against Hastings.
No doubt they'd get it straight back again next year when our two years of glory are over.

Hastings BHS 2nd XV (36), Palmerston North BHS 2nd XV (0)Colts lost though:
Hastings BHS U15 (19), Palmerston North BHS U15 (50) -
@Stargazer
I would be really interested to see how many times Lindisfarne has beaten TA. When I was there (early 2000's) pretty sure we hadn't ever beaten them. They happened to be strong when we were strong and when they were weak they were terrible and played 2nd 15 or lower grade. Even mid 2000's they had a couple of guys from NBHS go there just for rugby and created a strong team around that and came 3rd behind NBHSHBHS 1sts that year from memory. -
My most vivid (watching) rugby memories from school was the agro between NBHS and TA. We really didn't like each other (back in the early-mid 80's). Best moment was when an all in fight had started. Pod Turner had been taken under the grandstand 5 minutes earlier with an injury, but can came running back out to join in. Rugby was different in those days...

That's really quite sad.
Need to form a Super 1 comp now instead?
Hamilton Boys look like they'll be decent competition.
A Super 2 then. Yay.
The Super 8 has come into being because those big fish provincial schools are too big for their local comps.
Where do we go now?
I realise I'm hating on excellence. But geez, that's worrying. They pumped St Pats as well from the Wellington comp so the answer isn't there.

These things happen occasionally, one team in Super 8 will go on a roll and then it will pull back.
Hastings have been posting some pretty crazy scores in the last two years though.
-
That Hastings team features eight Year 14s (that's Form 8 under the old terminology) so their success this year should be taken with a grain of salt.
When they played (and smoked) MAGS in pre-season the MAGS coach looked at Hasting's team sheet before the game and remarked that it was an identical team to that which they beat in the National Final the year before.
-
Looks like super 8 is falling into a pattern that happens in the Auckland comp.. generally it's about 6-7 schools who have a genuine shot of making the top 4.. rest try to avoid relegation matches..
There's a cycle usually though.. however since the tv broadcasting St Kent's is a regular in playoffs.. they used to be rubbish
-
@mimic Yeah St Kents were quite strong in the late 90s and early 00s making a few Auckland finals and winning one (they had the likes of Lavea twins, Rokocoko, Afoas, Kaino) then they really regressed and actually got demoted into the 2nd tier. Then there was a huge focus/$ put into their rugby program and have had some pretty sustained success (and now coached by one of the Lavea twins, whilst the other coaches Kings).
