@KiwiMurph yeah that was a shit house display. I guess the very first play of the match should've signalled what was going to happen. Spin it wide to Ravouvou immediately without even looking up and watch him give it back.

So Australia knocks South Africa out of the Cup, the USA stop Fiji on its way, and Canada beat NZ.
That's not the semi-finals anyone would have predicted. Now hoping Kenya beat England ...

@Bones yep they didnt even try to create space for Ravouvou - just throw it to him and ask him to beat a line of defence. Yesterday nz were quite strong at the breakdown - today canada won that battle convincingly.

He was good last week but had two genuine shockers this week (the first pool match and the QF). Three times he has run straight towards touch and then thrown a no look pass. Idiotic.
Was surprised he wasn't dragged earlier in those 2 games

Sevens is always a bit of a lottery but there really are quite a few teams in it now.

England seriously helped by the ref (the penultimate penalty in particular).

NZ get out of jail vs Kenya in the plate semi. Ravouvou had another shocker unfortunately.

Tew needs to give some attention to Sevens. They've become something of a red-headed bastard AB child in the past couple of years.

Someone needs to work out the formula for winning and the formula for picking a dozen or so NZers who can do the job.

NZ win the plate, defeating South Africa. Waaka looked badly injured though.

USA hammer us then go down to the Canucks in the final.

    Great sport, this

Just watched the other NZ matches v Kenya and SA. Most concerning thing is the defence.
When we were consistently winning the series we conceded a few tries per tournament, now it is a few a match. Maybe that is my rose tinted memory.

Nice to get a win over SA for the first time in a year though.

@Chris-B. when rugby got announced as an Olympic sport they increased the earning potential of the 7s players, was about $180k or so for the top guys wasnt it? Not sure what esle they can do??

Awful lot of travel though, so that would be a drawback.

One of my colleagues nephew is in the team and she said he is loving it, but he aspires to be an AB, so maybe that is always a draw if a super contract comes knocking?

As an aside, am I right in thinking that the last 2 or 3 tournaments our only loss has been against the eventual winner?

Just to go back to that - Canada were our only loss in Singapore and they went on to win it.

Not sure if that is clutching at straws or looking at the positive.

@Snowy Straws. They barely look coached.

@Snowy yeah, Scooter is a mate and i hate to say it but the coaching looks off.

The defence is outright odd, they hardly even advance off set piece and seem to have this system where they'll stand back and soak, then decide to send a rush defender up on random occasions...Who is ineffective and gets beaten, leaving shitloads of space.

On attack...No creativity. Although with our main tactic being give it to Ravouvou and his main tactic being give it to the opposition, we don't get a lot of time to create.

Why isn't Koroi starting? What's the point in bringing him on with 30 seconds to go? The selection is way off too.

@Snowy Or you could look at it another way. If a team beats NZ they are a very good chance of winning the tournament, because we ain't winning it. 😞

    That's straws 🤔

If a team beats Saffers or Fiji they're a pretty good chance, but ONLY if its in the knockout 🙂 Our blokes knocked off Argies, Samoa, Kenya, Saffers, picked up two key injuries, and got annihilated by the USA. Man I could watch Baker run all day.

Who? The AB7's or the ice-hockey players?

I heard Whiria Meltzer has been called into 7s squad, but cant see anything online

Meltzer trialled for Titch a few seasons ago, played a bit for Northland and North Harbour.
