    Superb finish from Barboza. BOOOOOOOOM

Dariush moving forward into it made the force even more brtual

Situations like this are why I dislike seeing female refs in the UFC. In this instance Barboza was already starting to disengage, however the ref was correct to go flying in there to protect the downed fighter.
Can the female refs throw their weight around as well as this guy or Big John/Herb? Its a physical job and tokenism puts the fighters at risk.
Earlier in this card there was an accidental headbutt and the female ref took ~10secs to seperate the fighters.. they barely noticed her trying to pull them apart

So many good fights on that card. One of the better fight nights for a while

@Duluth there are female refs in the UFC? Thats PC gone complete and utterly mad. Maybe in the womans division at a cinch ...

But yes, refs should be be strong guys who would be able to withstand the force of a misdirected punch.

    @MajorRage

This is the first time I've seen this female ref. There is another one that works on a lot of the vegas cards

Heres the incident I'm talking about - the accidental headbutt (shitty video quality)

Check out how long it takes to break them up. If the guy was dazed he could have taken some damage that could have affected the result

Don't know if you'd find many that could take anything more than a glancing blow.

I know little to nothing about MMA itself. It just doesn't interest me as a sport but I am getting quite interested in hearing about some of the training they do. My son was showing me a video last night of some S&C training he did yesterday with that Jimi Manuwa that I linked above. He was standing about 2 metres out from a wall with his back to it and hiffing a 15kg medicine ball behind him that was bouncing back and being caught about 4 metres out. That is some power! Certainly not a stray hit I'd like to take.

BTW if anyone is looking for a flutter this weekend, the inside word is that Jimi has upped all his numbers quite a bit since his last fight. Just needs to do a good weight drop for weigh in now.

Not sure about that. Manuwa is rightly the favourite but there is not much value there

If the fight stays on the feet Manuwa is the better striker by a long way.

Anderson has been unimpressive but he has a style that could take advantage of Manuwa's take down defence. It doesn't matter what numbers he's pushing in the gym if his can't sort that out. Anderson could win in a dull humping match

Then there is the question of age: Manuwa 37 vs Anderson 27 and Manuwa has been put to sleep in 2 of his last 4 fights

I still pick Manuwa to win but those odds I've seen aren't attractive enough given the risk

Oh and hopefully one day we'll see Corey Anderson vs Pat Cummins to really confuse cricket fans

On Saturday night, Axel Cazares vs Alan Vasquez threw right hands at the same time. Both connected. And both were knocked out.

A shitty end to Pickett's career, it looked like he comfortably won the first two rounds then got caught by a kick in the third. Just one win in his last seven fights

Gunnar look great against Jouban. So many good match ups coming in the WW division.

Manuwa got the expected early knock out against Corey 'bitch tits' Anderson. Corey had a decent chance if he got the fight to ground, but he was waaay too eager for the take down and was shooting from distance.
On the feet it was just a matter of time. It was a clean knock out shot that Rumble Johnson would be proud of.

I had to laugh when he claimed that knocking out Anderson should get him a title shot. There's a gap between the top of LHW (Cormier, Johnson, Gustafsson, Jones) and the rest. The top guys have a lot of sorting out to do before Manuwa deserves a look in.
Maybe he should fight the loser of Cormier/Johnson, the loser of Teixeira/Gustafsson or if he gets lucky a return fight for Jones (I suspect Jones will get a title shot immediately)

Nothing formally confirmed for the Auckland Fight Night but these are the rumoured fights so far:

    Division
    Derrick Lewis Mark Hunt Heavyweight
    Derek Brunson Dan Kelly Middleweight
    Joseph Benavidez Ben Nguyen Flyweight
    John Moraga Ashkan Mokhtarian Flyweight
    Dan Hooker Ross Pearson Lightweight
    Damien Brown Vinc Pichel Lightweight

Thats a hard fight for Hunt. Lewis would be one of the scariest fighters in the UFC

Dan Kelly shouldn't be a test for Brunson but that guy finds a way to stay in fights

Looking forward to seeing how Hooker goes against a veteran

    Alvarez v Poirier
    WOW
Lots of talk about the 6th round between Joshua v Klitschko
Watch the second round of this match. Next level.
    Tough as.
Then mix up with old rules v new rules and it's a No Contest
Shame. That was going to finish one way or another
    Rematch for definite

Best Prelim Card I've ever seen

    Joanna 'Jab' Jedrzejczyk

Awesome, awesome display against a very tough opponent

Prelim plus Main Card = one of the best in a very, very long time

UFC wants Bisping to fight Romero in the next few months, however Bisping is injured

He believes there will be an interim belt and the fight will between Romero and the Aussie/Kiwi Robert Whittaker

I suspect both of those guys would beat Bisping (along with the a few other middleweights) so theres a reasonable chance this part of the world has a UFC champion soon.

    Romero would be favourite though.

    UFC 212

    Alcantara v Kelleher
Big upset, great patience and confidence from Kelleher on his debut. Got the guillotine in early and tight.

    Eduardo v Lopez
Another upset. Lopez pummelled Eduardo after he slipped the leg lock

    Carlos Junior v Spicely
Really technical and interesting ground fight with Carlos Junior submitting Spicely by rear naked choke in the 2nd

    Assuncao v Moraes
Shadow boxing session with a few fireworks at the death
Assuncao as the 3rd ranked fighter in the division was very unimpressive and could easily have lost the slpit decision

    Silva v Medeiros
Great left hook from Medeiros to put Silva on his back, then ground & pound to finish the fight. Early as far as Silva was concerned.

    Borrachinha v Bamgbose
Borrachinha punished Bamgbose. Brutal kicks to the body

    Belfort v Marquardt
Tough, tough fight between two veterans
Belfort gets the unanimous decision. Not sure about that

    Gadelha v Kowalkiewicz
Great finish from Gadelha. Made it look easy.

    Aldo v Holloway
Rnd 1 to Aldo, but Holloway showed a great chin
Rnd 2 to Holloway, with Aldo showing his toughness under pressure
Rnd 3 and New Undisputed Featherweight Champion of the World, Max Holloway
Stepped the pace up and floored Aldo, then wanted to make a statement and gave up the submission attempt to continue to gound and pound until McCarthy called it

    Goodnight Mr da Silva

    Hooker v Pearson
    Goonight Mr Pearson

    Brunson v Kelly
    Goodnight Mr Kelly

    Hunt v Lewis
Hunt with the TKO victory would have been Goodnight Mr Lewis if the ref hadn't stepped in
