Proteas could've been 2 down with an ounce of luck.

Wouldn't lose faith until the Proteas start scoring comfortably. Didn't do so in the first 6 overs.

Pretty dismal effort. Lots of self destruction and foolishness.

I'm a bit mystified by our batting order. Given the players who were picked, surely it should be:

    1. Neesham
    2. de Grandhomme
    3. Ronchi
    4. Santner

Unless they just really wanted to make sure Ronchi got some time in the middle. It's stretching things to give him a specialist batsman's slot (less so for Neesham) - so really we played 4 batsmen and 4 allrounders.

Hasn't answered many questions about our Champions Trophy line-up - at least not many positive answers. It's not good when guys move up the pecking order because they didn't play.

@Chris-B. Ronchi once again showed why he shouldn't even be in this team.
    Hes inadequate at this level.
We'd do better with Watling in there, he doesn't need to accumulate quickly, he needs to be there at the 50th over, letting de Grandhomme, Boult, Neesham, etc cut loose.
I'd add Southee to this list, but I don't think he actually deserves a spot anymore either, his bowling average isn't good enough, his strike-rate is poop, and hes not scoring runs either - hes irresponsible. I'd go so far as to suggest if McClenaghan and Milne were fit, he wouldn't even be playing.
    I'd really like to see
    Guptill
    Worker
    Williamson
    Taylor
    Broome
    Neesham
    Watling
    De Grandhomme
    Santner
    Milne/McClenaghan
    Boult

Another 7 wickets before they reach the total and you're done!

Of course, its ABdV so that will need to be some time in the next 10 overs 🤔

Boult averaged 45 and Southee 57 for the series. Not really good enough. I think the 3-2 series result was a fair reflection of the two teams.

He certainly doesn't make it easy to defend him. 🙂

Problem is - both Watling and Latham have been given chances to displace him and neither has made any sort of convincing case.

They've had about 5 seconds each to stake their claim, yet Ronchi has had 3 years and a million chances to prove time and time again that he is shithouse.
    How does that work?

    @Gunner Hey, don't blame me. 🙂

BUT - when you get given your chance you've got to take it.

    The bar isn't set high!

I don't blame you, but you're the messenger so I'm entitled to shoot you...
The bar is so fucking low MJ could moonwalk over it.

Edit: Someone please fix where the quote is supposed to start and end. Always seem to have problems 'quoting' from my phone.

Time for the fern to go into meltdown. Ronchi is now a 'power opener'

    Stuff

Although I think someone cut the power right after his 170 vs SL about a million years ago.

    Oh blimey.

Was going to say Ronchi is Hessons love child, but they're pretty much the same age, so that rules that out...

Ronchi is a decent cricketer. Most of his success in NZ is as a middle order batsman in first class cricket, but we keep selecting him as a slogger to open in limited overs cricket, which he has consistently failed at and avoided when given a choice for the last decade or so. Not really his fault, and makes a farce of the argument used for eg guptill not getting a run at 5 in tests.

In England? Wow? Was a spectacular failure last time. And he was actually in form then.
