Voltron: Training log 2011

Awesome effort on the deads Voltron.

I dont do enough heavy squatting to get anywhere near those numbers for the deads. My quads just can't take that weight....yet -
Wicked bro!! nothing better than reaching a target lift! that is some serious tin to shift, esp at your weight. Did you use straps or is that just pure grip strength (super impressive either way). Reckon a nice round figure of 180kg is on the cards now - then 200kg will be in sight!

I'm doing DL's tonight - don't think I'll have a crack at that kind of weight but its def got me gee'd up!! -

Do 180 paekak, you know you wanna !! DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super effort Volts, 2 hundy is on the cards next. As Kirwan said I'm hoping you were nice and shaky and starry eyed after the lift. Bout time I did some deads again after a few weeks off with a dodgy shoulder. Always nice to break a World record too. -
-
Knocked off 160kg without straps tonight - was a bit surprised! might have to have another look at straps! reckon you might as well buy extras right up to 200kg bro - with your recent form you'll be keen to push on!
-
PKB - Definitely strapped up, no way i could hang on to that alone (i know, MN5 is going to disown me). wasnt seeing too many stars TBH, reckon i could do a little more but unfortunately i only have 177.5 so will have to buy a couple more plates.
( Shakes head in disappointment <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> )

a nice cheap way to get extra "plates" is to put bricks in a plastic bag and hang them on the sides. I chucked em on the scales and they weigh 5kg each exactly. -
I did it. Lifted up all my weights today! (177.5kg deadlift)

Decided to do a powerlifting 1RM session instead of a real workout today. Managed deadlift as above, Benchpress 102.5 and squat 150 (have actually lost a little bit on those since start of the year but have lost lots of weight). Body weight 83.5 so 2 and 1/8th bodyweight deadlift. Overall total 430kg so still a wee way from the 1000 pound goal. Lifted 5.15 bodyweight for the 3 lifts. Not as much pure weight as i would have hoped at the start of the year but in bodyweight terms i reckon thats pretty good. I challenge you all to catch me. -

Huge effort and weights there Voltron.

I am nowhere near those numbers.

What sort of warmup/rep work did you do prior to the 1RM -
Cheers ACT.

For the squats i did 5 x 60kg, 5 x 100, 3 x 130, 1 x 140 then the 150. Went straight to 160 after that and failed, may have had another lift between 150 and 160 in me but i decided to move on

Bench was 5 x 60, 3 x 90, 1 x 100 and 1 x 102.5. Failed 105. Felt like i could have added a few more lower weight reps to warm up a bit more (maybe a set at 75 or something), but i'm a bit iffy on warming up vs burning out, so i erred on the side of too little.

Deadlift was 5 x 100, 3 x 140, 1 x 165 then 1 x 177.5. To be fair the form was awful and im not sure it would have passed in competition but i figure i got it from the ground to standing up so its good. -

Well done indeed Volts. As I think I mentioned on my thread when doing deads close to your max I think a tiny bit of iffy form is inevitable. Then again I'd argue ( as you do ) that as long as the back is completely straight the lift is aiight.
