If it's true what shag has said , there was little communication , I think he is entitled to be pissed .

The subtle dig was interesting, and obviously achieved what it was intended to do , it got under his skin .

if we go right back to 2007 , lam was mentioned by deans as being his assistant if he got the ab job , might be clutching at straws , but might be a little bit of history there of bad blood .

I have no real issue with players heading overseas, even though it sucks as a fan. They have a limited shelf life and need to do what's best for them. But the way Lam has constantly gone after NZ players, both at Connacht and now Bristol, makes him look like a leech. Hansen is a bit of a dick, has been for a long time, but boo-fuckin-hoo, Lam.

So Hansen was an ex-NZer too when he coached Wales? 🤔

And didn't he and Henry lure NZ players over there?

It's suggested on Planet Rugby that Hansen himself didn't actually lure anyone over there during his time as Wales coach. Personally, I can't be arsed looking it up, but . . .

Good on Steve for finally firing up. His job is to win games for NZ. That job is being made harder by tin-pot, shithouse rugby nations who have large wallets because their long suffering fans will pay money to watch any old rubbish that isn't fucking soccer.

And because the paucity of talent in their own ranks, they are forced to hire NZ coaches (both good and bad) to try and generate some sort of ability in to the competition. And those coaches, when presented with the reality of what they have to work with, immediately turn to what they know will get them the results their contract requires, ie NZ talent. So, armed with sugar-daddy money, or barely deserved TV money, they ring up their mates back home and entice them over with packets of cash with no real caveats re performance. Result! Even better, if you haven't been capped, you'll probably get a test gig for them, even though you couldn't give a fuck about the country.

These Benedict Arnold motherfuckers are deliberately undermining NZ rugby, and should be called out for their shenanigans.

    Yeah!!!

    That deserves to be re-quoted!

    Leeching our intellectual property.

If Hansen's comments makes a few others - ex-NZ coaches and players - think twice then I'm all for it! 🙂

I still think Akira Ioane will comfortably make the step up. A few rough edges, but much better raw material to work with.

No need to push the No.6 panic button just yet.

With Luatua gone and with so many talents in the second row, I'd like to see Barrett try a conversion from lock to loose forward. He has all the attributes for the Nr.6 jersey IMO.

No idea either but Hansen had a W10 L20 record with Wales so perhaps he should have! 😉

Henry encouraged Sonny Parker to come to Wales while he was playing rugby in Italy - but Hansen ended up capping him.

Even Ted didn't really poach anyone directly from the NZ set up, Howarth was in the NRL and Cardy and Sinkinson were already plying their trade in Europe before they popped on Ted's radar.

I think he meant ex-AB (but quite possibly did say ex-NZer).

Every news article I've seen re Lam in the UK refers to "Samoan, Pat Lam"" so maybe he's got a point. Apparently (up here) Pats a Samoan.

Maybe someone should ask him what passport he is working on in the UK?

Given EU labor laws almost certainly his Samoan. Kiwi Pat indeed.

It's easier to work in the UK on a Samoan passport?

There are some benefits/flexibility under the Cotonou Agreement - although far more when it comes to players.

I'm sure that Lam would have no problems on the NZ passport too though, even if his case for an 'exceptional talent in a skill/discipline" would be dubious.

Craig Innes, who is part of the Esportif management team that looks after Luatua, is bemused by Hansen's comments.

According to Innes, not only did they approach New Zealand Rugby's contracting team, but an offer was put on the table. Correspondence between Esportif and New Zealand Rugby started in December.

So how then did Hansen not know Luatua was being offered a life-changing deal to join Bristol?

This seems very odd, especially when you add in the meeting Luatua had with the All Black coaches two weeks ago, when all aspects of 2017 were discussed, except for the small matter of Luatua potentially going overseas.

I'm sure Innes is saying that in order to secure his ongoing relationship with players...

thing I dont get, is what does Hansen get from this with lying, he coulda said nothing.

I can understand his comment that some agents may try to minimise negotiations with NZR cos the $$$ from that contract will be less than the offers up North, but surely if Luatua is keen to stay, his agent knows this, so he makes an effort to ensure that all parties are aware.

    All very strange TBH.

@taniwharugby Maybe the NZRU fucked up and didn't communicate with Hansen? Maybe Hansen was angry and misspoke in that anger?

@Tim well that could be the case, but people (media) seem to be pointing at Hansen, who I see gaining nothing for lying as being insinuated.

Although Innes also says they (the coaches) met with Luatua a few weeks prior and it seems he is saying Luatua told them then he was looking offshore.

    Interesting article from Veitch.

As previously - I sit on the other side from his:

But is it right for the national body and All Black coaches to cry foul when a player is merely making the choice every one of us does in our working life, to stay or go.

These aren't people who have come through a taxpayer-funded system of education who are going away to accumulate experience that might be of value to all of us later. These are people who have been given a shitload of privilege to develop them into world class players and are capitalising on NZ rugby's intellectual property.

    I say, fuck 'em!

You want to take the cash, that's fine. But, I'm going to criticize you as a mercenary.

These aren't people being paid minimum wage. These are people grabbing big cash and selling out on NZ rugby.

I have no problem with people putting the boot in. Fuck French, English, Welsh, and Japanese rugby.

They've completely fucked over the Jaapies, largely fucked over the Aussies, and we're on the hitlist.

    Fuck 'em!!!
