Exodus 2017

@Bovidae Yep.
But, my point is a bit different. Luatua notes in his article that his parents had to make sacrifices for him and his siblings had to make sacrifices for him.
But, they're not the only people who had to make sacrifices for him. All the amateur coaches who coached him, and parents who drove him to footy, and the kids who marginally missed selection to provincial and national teams who missed out on specialized coaching all made sacrifices for Stephen's benefit.
I, myself, went to school with Andy Earl and helped refine his tackling technique. Every time Andy smashed me into the deck I was refining his tackling technique and indirectly contributing to the All Black blindside legacy.
I should be fucking compensated for my contribution. Every time one of these professional rugby players ditches NZ I should be paid about 17 cents. Steve Tew should write it into their contracts!

Pat Lam fired up as being labelled an ex-NZer by Hansen ... He's got a point there, but he is forgetting that he convinced a current All Black to leave the stable and join his stable. So it's kind of fair for Hansen to be pissed about it.
-
@taniwharugby @hooroo yeah I reckon Hansen knew exactly what he was saying and chose his words carefully.
Lam has already sort of chucked out the race card already, and I expect this to be picked up on, circulated and go viral. Before of course, the rugby world police start up and really take this to the next level.

@MajorRage Zig Zag Yellow??
-
@MajorRage expect NZR will need to do a full investigation into Hansen's comments, Tew needs to get ahead of this and apologise now!

But seriously, how thin is Lam's skin?
+1. Ex-All Black is probably what Hansen is going for, although ex-New Zealander does get at the loyalty Lam has to the AB set up and jersey and Auckland/Blues set up and jersey (none). Hansen would have had plenty to do with him while he was at the Blues and probably doesn't rate him highly.
He even got a nice dig in about how he was sacked by the NZRU/Blues. Still obviously very bitter.
As for Hansen, I love the guy and I truly do enjoy him pushing the buttons of Jones and Cheika - when his wind ups are limited to those two it's hard to say it reflects on him. They are clowns and easy tragets.
But you have to imagine Gatland is going to cop some withering comments in the following six months, plus he has always enjoyed a pot shot at Deans - at what point is Hansen being a bit of a dick here?
Probably best to step back from the mic for a bit I reckon.

Good on Steve for finally firing up. His job is to win games for NZ. That job is being made harder by tin-pot, shithouse rugby nations who have large wallets because their long suffering fans will pay money to watch any old rubbish that isn't fucking soccer.
And because the paucity of talent in their own ranks, they are forced to hire NZ coaches (both good and bad) to try and generate some sort of ability in to the competition. And those coaches, when presented with the reality of what they have to work with, immediately turn to what they know will get them the results their contract requires, ie NZ talent. So, armed with sugar-daddy money, or barely deserved TV money, they ring up their mates back home and entice them over with packets of cash with no real caveats re performance. Result! Even better, if you haven't been capped, you'll probably get a test gig for them, even though you couldn't give a fuck about the country.
These Benedict Arnold motherfuckers are deliberately undermining NZ rugby, and should be called out for their shenanigans.

Crotty and Perenara on the shopping list?
-
@Tim I cannot imagine these two players signing with overseas clubs. Crotty (28) is now the ABs incumbent no. 12 and will do anything to get to the 2019 RWC after missing out in 2015; Perenara (25) is clearly the no. 2 halfback chasing for the no. 1 spot.

Yeah, this is one I'm not taking seriously for the moment.
Starting XV ABs are probably some of the least at risk players. Perenara finished the season as No.1 half-back, and Crotty is currently the incumbent 12, I see him sticking around until 2019 (then highly likely to go) and Perenara could start past 2019.

So Hansen was an ex-NZer too when he coached Wales?
I think he meant ex-AB (but quite possibly did say ex-NZer). Lam certainly has previous when it comes to snagging Kiwis, just look at Connacht.
-
@Billy-Tell I was being facetious.
Lam is no different than Cotter was at Clermont etc. I'm not saying I agree with Kiwi coaches luring Kiwi players to Europe, but it's hardly a new concept.
-
If it's true what shag has said , there was little communication , I think he is entitled to be pissed .
The subtle dig was interesting, and obviously achieved what it was intended to do , it got under his skin .
if we go right back to 2007 , lam was mentioned by deans as being his assistant if he got the ab job , might be clutching at straws , but might be a little bit of history there of bad blood .
-
I have no real issue with players heading overseas, even though it sucks as a fan. They have a limited shelf life and need to do what's best for them. But the way Lam has constantly gone after NZ players, both at Connacht and now Bristol, makes him look like a leech. Hansen is a bit of a dick, has been for a long time, but boo-fuckin-hoo, Lam.
