Movie review thread...

The Girl who kicked the Hornets Nest; really enjoyed the 1st 2, but thought this was a bit slow only really kicking off in the last half hour or so, which was well after they could have finished the movie

Super 8. It was about the best popcorn movie I have seen in years. Think old school Spielberg, like ET or Close Encounters with less kitsch. Fantastic child actors and solid character actors.

Bugger all CGI and some serious scares.

9/10. Best movie I have seen this year. -
Watched Hal Ashby's final feature, 8 Milion Ways to Die. Bit muddled and sloppy. The hook to get Jeff Bridges into the noir situation was fairly week too. I like bridges in those 80's neo-noir roles though, and the movie was watchable.

Would've made a good episode of Miami Vice. -
Had a bit of a movie marathon (for me) on the weekend.

Che Parts 1 and 2:
Part 1 was pretty good, although it took me a while to figure out who every one was. However the story was easy to follow which wasn't the case in Part 2. Part 1 was set in Cuba during the revolution. Part 2 was set in Bolivia and is basically an account of Guevara's last days. But I really had no idea who anyone was, where they were, what was happening ....

I didn't find them too political, apparently Sodenbergh had litte interest in Che before Del Toro brought the story to him. Basically my opinion of him is still very gray - one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter and all that! It seems to be less favourable of Che than the Motorcycle Diaries - if not as good a film(s).

Part 1 gets bonus points for the inclusion Catalina Sandino Moreno.

Part 1 - 7.5/10
Part 2 - 6/10

The Adjustment Bureau:
I actually enjoyed this movie despite the iffy reviews it received - and going in I really had no idea what it was about, so wont spoil it for anyone else. Lets just say it isn't set in the 40s or 50s as I assumed from pictures of the movie. Matt Damon is his usual trustworthy self, Emily Blunt is decent and Anthony Mackie is good yet again (he was in the Hurt Locker).

7.5/10 -
watched Paul the other night, had some good laughs but overall, pretty average...
-
Trust - not the kind of movie you can say is 'good' because the subject matter is not nice, that being said, I thought it was well portrayed and acted, and any parent living in todays internet age (moreso if you have a daughter) would be horrified as the movie progressed.

Basically, a 14 yr old girl meets a 16 yr old guy online, he then later admits he is 20, then 25......

Like most movies, you sit there saying you wouldnt have done that or this, but ultimately, this happens, that is the scary part! -
I read Let the Right One In late last year and enjoyed it. Saw the DVD the other night and it's a good representation of the creepiness and horror depicted in the book. The music is pretty good too.

did you watch the original subtitled or the English re-make?

Watched Big Trouble in Little China last night on Four. Just remember what old Jack Burton always says: this is still a fun movie to watch. 8/10
Apparently to be remade too...
I hope not. Too much time has passed and old Jack Burton is now Old Jack Burton. -
The new transformers is pretty good. Watched it Friday night. Great use of 3D - gives depth to the screen, not any corny things jumping out at you. A number of digs at Megan fox in the movie as well. Witwicky has a new girl-friend (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley - very nice!) .. .and there's some digs - about his old girlfriend being dumped.
Tango & Cash was proudly introduced to the Missus last night. "He thinks he's Rambo". Thank you ITV!
Awesome, just awesome. Everything an 80s action movie needs. I'm surprised Tim hasn't been on here with his favourite clip...
