Scotland win a crucial penalty and kick for lineout on 22m Irish line.
They take, and slow it down again.
They move wider and get a penalty on the 22.
Kick for the lead again in front of the posts.
-
Laidlaw knocks it over for 4/4 on the day.
Scotland 24-22 with 7 minutes left on the clock.
-
Ireland re-start quickly and pin Scotland at the breakdown. Hogg relieve kicks and Kearney catches and takes it forward. Out to Zebo on the left, then Vdf as he carries forward.
Stander carries but loses it and Scotland kick upfield. Kearney takes and Ireland attack down the right.
Another mistake and Scotland kick ahead. Henshaw collects and goes forward. He loses it. Scotland kick forward again and Murray collects. he dawdles passes to Zebo who left kick from his 22. Scotland collect and it's
A HEAD HIGH TACKLE as a Scottish player ducks but is still got around the head from behind.
TMO check as crowd screams yellow!
This is the match moment.
-
No sanction.
Scotland kick to 5m touch. Here we go.
3 minutes to go.
Scotland take their time. Johnny Gray collects easily. They maul but don't move. That's once says Poite. They're stuck. Use it. Laidlaw falters and is caught.
Another breakdown. Scotland slow. Use it says Poite. Another one.
But Scotland win a penalty at the next breakdown. Scotland should take the kick and the match here.
-
Yep. Less than a minute to go. Laidlaw lines it up.
Scotland have won. Well deserved. Congrats.
-
Murrayfield rings out with Scotland the Brave as the crowd goes wild as Laidlaw's kick sails over. Poite blows for full-time.
Madness ensues.
Scotland 27-22 Ireland
Grown men crying. Dear dear.
-
Lions guess squads are being rapidly re-written across Britain and Ireland......
-
Really like the way Laidlaw leads a team about the park, would be interesting to see him starting for the lions I reckon, although not so good at picking up the pace from the breakdown.
Russell is in great form too.
Nice one Scotland. First time in 10 years they've won the first game!
-
Great win Scotland. Will make for an interesting tournament. Can France do the same in the next game coming up?
-
Great game to watch. Scotland had no scrum. Ireland quite often had no line out. Ireland went back to what they do best which is pick 'n' go and one-off-the-ruck, but Hogg has more attacking class in his frame than the Irish backs combined. He didn't get enough ball IMHO, owned Keith Earls and the like every time he had the ball in his hands. He has some faults to his game, but Hogg can definitely trouble the ABs in a Lions jersey.

Yep. Earls is just blind on his defence. Ireland need O'Mahony back as a lineout option. And more back three options.
Vern Cotter grinning from ear to ear in putting one over his old mucker, Schmidt.

@Pot-Hale Under the new directives Bowes high tackle at the end should have been a yellow, should it not? It was the same as Fekitoa last November. If an all black had have made that high tackle today, it would have been red

Yeah, it backfired picking Henderson ahead of Ryan IMO. Also, I'd be tempted to start VDF. But Schmidt has to do something about the attack.

If you had left the last bit of your sentence out, I might have agreed with you.

Ryan was injured so didn't start. He's available for next week. I thought O'Brien had a good game. I'd be tempted to start with O'Mahony and have Stander on the bench. We need better lineout options - we were read too easily. Easterby has some work to do.
The attack is all over the place. Jackson is good at the one-off stuff but he doesn't lead the line as well as Sexton, or Carbery, possibly.

Think Fekitoas was definitely worse, but the shrieking if it had been an AB doing the one today would've been crazy. As it was all the commentators seemed to agree it was borderline but probably only a penalty.
I'm sure if it was Fekitoa it would've been worthy of a 5 year ban.
