Movie review thread...

Have caught a few recent films recently.<br />
<br />
'Drive Angry', Nic Cage thing..okish..bit silly..never really grabbed me. Not his worse work though. 6.5/10<br />
<br />
'The Green Hornet', not bad but a confusing movie that never reaches anything special. Nor can it make up its mind what its supposed to be, action or comedy.<br />
Probably one of the worse comic book films ive seen. 6/10<br />
<br />
"Dinner for Smucks'..had my doubts a while ago about this, but couldnt find much else that the mrs might enjoy watching, wish i hadnt bothered. 5.5/10 -

a 6/10 is nothing to be sneezed at, you must love your adaptations Virg ! <br />
<br />
I saw the ad for it and asked my mate next to me what the Green Lantern actually did in terms of super powers. We both stared blankly..... -
Have gone through a Terry Gilliam phase over the past fortnight.<br />
<br />
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen - I only saw this movie once before, as a nine-year old, so didn't know what to expect. I thought it was a fun tale which sometimes got a little sidetracked, but a good watch none the less. You also see Uma Thurman's nipple <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> 6/10<br />
<br />
Brazil - Basically a rip-off of George Orwell's 1984 but with humour. The mother was a bit creepy and I didn't get the reason behind the Samurai but the ending was great. Enjoyed Robert DeNiro's character leading a rebellion via air con repair. 7/10.<br />
<br />
Leaving Mr Gilliam for a moment, I watched EuroTrip on Four tonight. I don't care what anyone says, I find that film funny and could watch it multiple times. 9/10. -
Saw Hangover two - brilliant, when showing the photos over the opening credits. Pretty dire everywhere else.<br />
<br />
I'm a bit diluted to Chow due to him being the Chang on Community (watch it if you haven't yet) so didn't find him funny.<br />
<br />
Despite everyone in the theater laughing on cue for the Zach Galinafikas (sp) character, I think his shtick is well and truly done.<br />
<br />
On reflection I'd give it a 5.5/10 - the point 5 due to the bride being hot and the old bride being really hot - even if pregnant. -

I love that you two are obliviously talking about two different films. -
Edward Norton was the other in Stone I think. Agree that it was crap. Milla Jovovich is farken hot though.<br />
<br />
The new X-Men movie is really good. Pro X and Magneto are brilliant. <br />
<br />
Hangover 2. Thought it was funny as but didn't enjoy it as much as the first. Chang or whatever his name is was just f*ken annoying. -
Haaaa I never even noticed. Brilliant. Classic fernage from us there.
<br />
<br />
US!..mate i knew what movie i was talking about..and it was shite!<br />
<br />
Green Lantern actually looks like it MIGHT be good.<br />
<br />
One that has caught my attention is Super 8, from the genius that tortured us for 7 years with Lost. -
haha, I have seen the ad's for Green Lantern and thought I know that one with Seth Rogen was supposed to be pants, but why are they making a new one already <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
Anyone seen Stone?? (Robert Dinero (baaaad spelling) Milovich (I think) and someone else who I like but name escapes me)<br />
<br />
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked!!! Fast forwarded it to the end to see what happened. Suuuuuuuuuucked!!
With you on that! Just what the fuck happened there? SFA. -
The Rite - Anthony Hopkins<br />
<br />
Unless you are an exorcism nut, don't bother, very average storyline about a young guy who is about to throw away a promising career as a priest (how could you) as he does not know if he believes, but gets convinced to go to the Vatican to study exorcisms and gets taken under the wing of the 'master' Anthony Hopkins.... -
Brighton Rock - Helen Mirren strives as always to make 60 (nearly 70) sexy but overall I found this although well made and sympathetically updated to Mods/Rockers 60's overly long and slow.<br />
<br />
I guess I have a problem with the source material. I've always struggled with Greene as an author and his overt issues with Catholicism. I don't find the 1950's version (with Richard Attenborough as a working class hood FFS) the classic its held up to be and this ones no better.<br />
<br />
Hard to take a nasty bastard seriously when he's called "pinky". -
The Girl who kicked the Hornets Nest; really enjoyed the 1st 2, but thought this was a bit slow only really kicking off in the last half hour or so, which was well after they could have finished the movie
-
Super 8. It was about the best popcorn movie I have seen in years. Think old school Spielberg, like ET or Close Encounters with less kitsch. Fantastic child actors and solid character actors.<br />
<br />
Bugger all CGI and some serious scares.<br />
<br />
9/10. Best movie I have seen this year. -
Watched Hal Ashby's final feature, 8 Milion Ways to Die. Bit muddled and sloppy. The hook to get Jeff Bridges into the noir situation was fairly week too. I like bridges in those 80's neo-noir roles though, and the movie was watchable. <br />
<br />
Would've made a good episode of Miami Vice.
