That was a pretty shoddy tackle attempt from him though.
It was. He looks completely disinterested. Ulster are a shambles.
-
@Pot-Hale He looked well up for it with the ball in hand but less so in defence all night. Was probably still the class act o the field though - close between him and Nowell.

Did you watch the game? He was very busy all night and his only mistake was that missed tackle on Nowell (and a bit of dodgy restart when Jackson was in the bin). Ulster are not a shambles. They just don't have a very good forward pack.

I did watch it. And I watched Piutau at the game in the RDS - hence my observation.
Shanahan is not a good enough standard scrum-half for a must-win European game. The back-line play was obvious and evident and once Exeter had worked that out and Jackson's plays, they were pretty muted. The pack is seriously missing talent in the locks and back row.
Ulster are unfortunate in signing Marcel Coetzee for this season and then him not being available due to injury. They'll need him and Pienaar back badly if they want to hit the top 6 which they're in danger of missing out on.
Signs on it that today that Ulster have announced the signing of No 9, John Cooney from Connacht (brilliant game deputising at 10 at the weekend) for next season to replace Pienaar. And they've also signed Arno Botha - a capped NIQ - to come into the back row. And they plan to announce another second row player in the next few weeks. I also suspect that Kiss will stay put, but Nucifora will help give the chop to local assistant coaches Clarke and Doak, and bring in other foreign coaches to support Kiss.

Nothing wrong with getting outside expertise.

It's certainly made them better.

I watched bits of Leinster v Castre the other day. Leinster looked pretty good except for their halfback, who barely looked club standard. Pot Hale is he their usual bloke? he was fucking terrible, and stifled so many attacks.

Luke McGrath, yeah he is their first choice. Superb athlete but his skills lets him down. They've been spending a few years trying to upskill him and overall he mixes the good with the bad but imo his basics are not good enough and it often leads to error ridden performances. He is probably Ireland's 3rd choice in that position!
