Day 1 of Aus v Pakistan

Aus win the toss and bat. Cruising in the first session, 70/0 after 23.

Now in the 27th it's 75/2 after Warner and Khawaja both go in quick succession.

Cricinfo suggesting there was fuck all on offer for the bowlers on the first arvo.

Watched a bit of it while "working" from home. Not much through the air. Bit off the seam.

Not sure what the fuck the leg spinner was supposed to do with that field, then realised it relied on a stupid, wristy shot from someone like The Waj to prove him right.

Anyway, Renshaw has a fucking great temperament and Smith is seeing it like a melon. Still a tiny bit there for the bowlers, but they'll have to earn it until the lights come on, when it might hoop around a bit.

Well, Pakistan will rue dropping Smith earlier in the day. While he has to get back into the groove this afternoon, there are a few morning showers around Brisvegas which might help with the swing side of things on a ball that is only 10 overs old.

Both Renshaw and Hanscomb are flipping the bird at the older heads in Australian cricket right now, having made this cricket thing look fairly easy against South Africa and now Pakistan, and neither attack are composed of mugs.

2 wickets and 80-odd runs in the first session, 1 wicket and 90-odd in the second, and 0 for 100+ in the third.

If things continue this way, it looks ominous for the tourists. Starc and Hazlewood, under lights, with a new ball tonight. Hmmm...

Still, the Pakistan team has some good pace bowling and a decent spinner, and just need to get their planning together to cause a quick collapse and chase less than 400 for a first innings lead.

Steve Smith may look like an ugly lesbian, with a shit technique (he fucking bats like he's playing in the back yard) but he's a freak. Scores fuckloads, can effortlessly play all 3 formats. The best bat in the world.

Wasn't he orginally picked in the team many years ago as a new Warnie?? I seem to remember him trying to cut it as a wrist spinner rather than bat? Or am I mxing him up?

No you're right. He made his debut batting 9, from memory.

Incredible! I wonder what talents I had hidden inside and instead focused on the wrong thing...........

At that point he looked like being the next Cameron White, not the next fucking Ricky Ponting.

They were using the Michael Clarke principle: people won't see him coming 😉

His wiki entry is freak reading, too:

Smith was born in Sydney to an Australian father, Peter, who has a degree in chemistry and works with pigments and waxes,[9] and an English mother.[10] He was educated at Menai High School, but at 17 he dropped out of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) to play cricket in England.[11][12]

Yeah - stay in school kids... unless you have a middle name like Devereux and a face like @mariner4life watches in butch lesbo porn.

One of his earliest achievements was being the leading wicket taker at the 2008 KFC Big Bash tournament . This was despite only playing four out of the five games. He took 4/15 against Queensland and finished with 9 wickets overall.[14] Due to his efforts, he was named the second best player of the tournament

By the end of the 2009–10 domestic season Smith had a first-class batting average of over 50 after just 13 first-class matches. While his first-class bowling average in the high forties was not as impressive, his bowling appeared to be steadily improving following some well-publicised mentoring and high praise from Shane Warne.[17] In the final match of the season he took 7 for 64 in the second innings against South Australia.[18]

His spin bowling wasn't that bad.. but it was getting worse every match. I remember thinking Terry Jenner was right and he shouldn't be playing short form cricket

@booboo one assumes Smith will receive the same level of treatment as Stuart Broad now?

Handscomb better get a wriggle on here, or he could get stranded short of a ton.
