Yeah, I know what you mean but I can see areas to trim up still. My optimum is going to be around 75kg. I was 73kg when I went to the UK in 2000, and I had put on weight to get to that. I certainly should have an 8 in front of anything I weigh. Wife assures me I have lost weight, and I am fitting t-shirts that I couldn't before.

I did notice that my legs have gotten much larger, so I'm hoping that the runs have given me some muscle here and that's why the weight has plateaued. Have only been able to run like this the last three weeks.

takes 6 months (i have read) for your body to get used to and think 'normal' a new weight. So when you get to your goal, it is hard work to keep there until your body thinks it is where you should be.

No matter how much weight I'm carrying I always have skinny legs. When I do walking/weights etc I just have more toned skinny legs. It's frustrating, a skinny legged Māori. Stupid skinny Portuguese ancestors.

Had a great exercise day yesterday, pulled out a 10km Row where I was just coasting through (was aiming for a 65-75% intensity workout for fat burning) and ended up 40 seconds off my best ever time. If I had known that I would have gone harder! So fitness is coming up.

Second half of the day I went for a 40min cycle with the family (wife on her bike, and each of us with a rugrat in a seat behind us). We ended up doing just over 11kms, and got a good sweat up.

Meant I start the week at my lowest weight yet of 81.3kg, finally a smidge under that damn 81.5-82kg range I was stuck in for the best part of three weeks.

300grams off halfway....

Todays lesson is not run with a tight calf, no matter how long you warm up. Got 2kms into my 5km jog and it went again. Took a looooooong time to get home.

Calf was good enough for a bike, so did a 45min ride over a nice nature track. No great pace, but steady work.

Much better diet this week, and lots of exercise means the weight is coming off, almost a kg so far this week. That puts me at 80.9 today, past my half way goal and getting close to second significant goal of getting under 80kgs. (First was losing five kgs).

Back on track! Gotta get to 78kgs as fast as possible before the 5th of March, as I'm off for a work trip for two weeks, and I want to stay under 80kgs after it!

Probably the time you start to see tangible gains in fitness and in appearance - sounds like a really varied cardio plan with biking, running, rowing etc - all helps to keep the motivation going. Particulary as you can row (inside!) over winter when the other options aren't so attractive!

Great work on being so close to your target too, that sense of satisfaction will surely help you kick on.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to seeing a 7 as the starting number on the scales. Seeing where I am now though has confirmed that 75kg is the correct end goal. Maybe even lower, we will see.

Wow 70 odd kg... I would flip my lid if I got under 90! Good thing about the incremental loss is its about better eating and an active lifestyle - waaaay less chance of hitting your target weight then getting slack and adding the kilos back on.

Funny how much sense it makes compared to those who swing between a feast/famine approach to diet/exercise. Much better to build up to something you can maintain in the long term than thrash yourself in the short term only to see it all go pear shaped (literally!!).

Did you happen to take any before/after pics? Amazing how much your bodyshape can change with a bit of hardwork.

Not for those of us that are vertically challenged. 87 was a disgrace for me.

I'm a towering 176cm but can trace my lineage back to brick shithouses so that accounts for my big bonedness!! 100kg plus is def in the pie zone for me but mid to low 90's I'm ok with that

A 7 in front of my weight at 190cm is downright scary. Even in the 80's back in 2004 my Mother was concerned I wasn't eating properly ( I probably wasn't but there was certainly a lot of liquid in the diet ! )

My brother is the same height as me, and he's often around 68kg (and he's not skinny at all, decent amount of muscle). Just to freak you out <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

To compare I am 180cm on the dot and currently about 82kg (fortnightly weighin is today). This weight feels pretty good but 85-86kg is my target and thats a lean 85-86kg so from here up more in muscle and down more in fat.

I left school in my mid 60s and pretty dam skinny and this was due to all the running I did where I competed in various long distance running (road race, cross country etc) at nationals level. Was pretty fit back then. Stopped all the running once I hit uni and from there started putting on the weight but given I was working out at the uni gym it was in control.

Post uni years I steadily climbed up through the 70s and ballooned in to the 80s. I blame all the corporate entertaining and (perceived) lack of time to exercise plus a couple of years in the UK didnt help either although at least I made an effort to go to the gym over there. My last trip to the UK in September though was the killer. Put on alot of weight while there and wasnt overly positive about how I was looking.

I always thought you were pretty slim or in shape back in the UK Kirwan? Did you put on your weight since you got back to NZ? What do you put it down to?

Good to see the progress you have made so far. Its pretty impressive how that weight is coming off. Keep it up eh.
