After a fight back, another wicket and it's 157/6.
Shit the African batting has fallen in a hole. Over the past 2 years their averages are shithouse. Amla decent at 48, ADdV at 46, then it's Bavuma at 40, and Elgar at 39. Faf is averaging 30. de Kock averages 74, but that is helped by not getting out half the time. Shit, make it the last year and everyone drops by 10 runs!
Based on that, this isn't a surprise.
Duminy has a career average only marginally better than the much maligned Marty Guptill. How has he made so many appearances for SA ?
Overall as you allude to they do look a shitload weaker with Kallis gone.

@MN5 Kallis gone, Smith gone, ABdV not playing, Amla dropping from a late 50s to late 30s average. No one new stepping up. They're basically us with a much, much better attack.
fixed

@MN5 I don't know about that. Steyn is the undoubted stand out. Boult would be the #2 in a combined attack. Their spinner is on debut, while Santner just had a decent tour of India. I think they're still better, but it's not daylight second (even if Morkel was fit)

Vernon Philander is pissed off you're ignoring his "better than Hadlees even in todays batting friendly era" bowling average. No fucken way Boult usurps him.

jesus mate, he averaged 52. though his first class average is 48, and tests are a bit tougher, so i guess he might have made par.

Oz fans probably scratch their heads at the inclusion of Mitchell Marsh. NZ do the same with ( insert any spinner since Vettori retired )

de Kock getting stuck right in.
RIGHT.
IN.
Proteboks get past 200 as a result. Decent total with that attack to back them up.
Quite possibly. Also with Marsh the younger and Voges surely....SURELY due several failures against a decent attack she's anyones game.

227/9 is nowhere near good enough on this pitch. Aus well on top.
-
Woah 158/0 to 241/8, solid collapse from the Aussies and it's game on. Though Steyn is injured.
-
Good - it's a contest again.

I am perfectly happy with this turn of events
At least you guys won't be seeing Dale Steyn again this tour.

Just reading about that. If the tour result was in any doubt, it's not now.
Also, this Aussie team shows me why this isn't a vintage Aussie team. Losing theg rip on the game with a collapse like that - very unAustralian!

Read SA have only won a single test in the last 8 years without Steyn
