New Zealand U85 v Sri Lanka

The HSOB Light Bears are one of the teams that only come together for the national comp with many of their players and representatives in this team belonging to their clubs premier side. Canterbury are developing a under 85 local competition which featured 4 teams last season IIRC but the HSOB Light Bears were not one.

@cgrant They've been encouraged to put on weight over the off-season so no, not all the players in the team will be under 85kgs while they play the Sri Lankan's.
Personally when I played many years ago I'd blow out to 95kg over Christmas and then work hard to get down to 85kg by the time the first game hit so some of those boys could easily be 90/95kg.
So ironically they wont have to be 85kg for the naitional side, but will have to trim down to 85kg to play for their club

That's fucken ridiculous. It's like being 25 but playing for the U20s because you used to be under 20.

@reprobate I guess the logic is that they're playing against teams that aren't weight restricted therefore the 85kg rule doesn't apply, but yes there is a certain amount of irony to it.
Still I recall playing a heartland team propping against some 120kg behemouth and having to pluck my spine out the back of ass after every scrum. I would have much preferred to have been the 95KG version of myself at the time

As an <85kg man myself I got squashed plenty in club footy, so can definitely sympathise. Sadly I never had a 95kg version of myself, but I did play a game of under 85s and fuck I felt like Jonah. I wasn't of course, being big for 80 minutes just turned me into a hungus.
Anyway, they should just change the name (surely small blacks has been taken already?)
