I wouldn't expect that batting line up to make 200 in either innings, actually I wouldn't expect a cumulative 200 against almost anyone, but especially in Asia. We're putting out a weak on here.

@Rapido If you add everyone's average together - it comes to about 320 (plus extras). Admittedly, there's a few like Ronchi and Henry who might have inflated averages relative to talent, but even if you severely knock 70 runs off - it still seems reasonable to expect 250+ on average.

But we're definitely fragile without little Kane.

India are a good team, especially at home. I don't think most of our batsmen would average above 30 in these conditions over an extended period.

Probably not - I was more reponding to Rapido's suggestion that he wouldn't expect 200 against almost anyone.

Gets a life and throws it away. That's pretty frustrating. Good innings nonetheless.

Indian top order having a passable collapse 43/4.

Boult had a shout against Kohli that would have had his heart in his mouth, but definitely pitching outside leg.

Pujara's lbw would have been worth an a review if he were allowed one.

I guess they're effectively 158/4 - get one more quick wicket and we're back in the game.

Props to Doull for pointing out that Kohli, although right up there in the shorter forms, is only ranked 20 in tests. And that this summer is a good chance for him to mark himself "against the best" with Kane here now and Root/Smith to come.

The Indian comms response when they showed the top 10: "well he doesn't feature in that top 10 but go and ask bowlers around the world what they think"

They'd all say exactly the same thing you dork - that he's not up there in tests but is a force in the shorter forms. He's not the only player in the world that dominates the short forms only.

Thata boy Boult, sends Kohli on his way for 1 more then his average and we are just hanging in there.

Don't worry about the LBW call. Would have been "umpires call".

    Haven't quite taken the wickets fast enough - they're 125/6 effectively 237/6.

Hard to think we can get 250 to win batting last, let alone any more. Someone would have to do something special! About the only trump card we have is that they've only got two seamers.

Not so Chris, Jeetan is just getting warmed up.
Another positive is that it would be tough to drop Henry after this performance, hopefully this will be the kick in the arse Southee needs.

Unfortunately, someone didn't quite wind Jeets' spring tight enough this morning. Just when I was expecting him to tear the Indians a new one they went after him.

Incidentally, is it time for me to clear the old browser history or does everyone's cricinfo have ads for 'popcherry' - a relatively skimpy women's clothing brand?

What happened to BJ? Luke has the gloves.

Really good fight back from our seamers but unfortunately 270 odd is too much let alone what it'll end up being. Pitch is up and down too

@Siam dunno, probably some sort of injury - but why not share the duties even if there is no issue? They're both full timers, so why not keep them fresh - shoulda been happening with baz too in my opinion, particularly if your keeper plays a long innings, why not give them a session off.

@reprobate I sense the logic but no keeper wants to do half an innings. There's a rhythm and flow to the job. Hence why no lesser team anywhere ever does it

@Siam yeah I hear ya, but it's not that common to have in a team a very good keeper (baz) unable to keep for tests but who can handle Odis, and a semi-convert in BJ. I wouldn't advocate changing ad hoc, but a full session would allow people to have their heads around it I reckon, and a couple of hours with the feet up while a superior outfielder is on the ground would make sense. Can either of BJ or Luke even throw anymore?
