    Paradise Alley?

yes! and wrestling, that's it! But for some reason after 3 decades I thought it was boxing -- still remember the scene he carries ice upstairs...gee, reading reviews now they just didn't like it. Maybe my memory is bad.

I loved it. Still do. Watched it a couple of years ago.

Thank you. I have just been reading about Lee Canalito's boxing career, 21-0, 19 KO. So in real-life he was a boxer after all. And a good one.

@W32 I thought that sounded familiar - there was a fair bit of love for it in this thread back when it was first released.

I quite enjoyed that. VV surprised me, some absolutely ridiculous Grindhouse type violence always appeals.

I'm going to take back my Terminator comment, how could a super swaggering heavily muscled thick Austrian accented expressionless lug of a man fit in with the scurrying human survivors?

Don't quote me as I've only seen it around 50 times but wasn't the Arnie model designed to fit in with humans in the 80s ? Pro Wrestling was at it's peak so steroid jacked monoliths were much more common in California then.

Seagal movies were great, watching Under Siege with Erika Eleniak is a memory that stands out from when I was young.

IMHO Under Siege is easily the best of all those one man army taking out hordes of bad guys who take over a ship/plane/building films. It was sadly all downhill from there for Weird Steve.

One thing I'll give Arnie and Sly is that they actually did become better actors. They weren't just muscles and mindless action after a while. I actually think Peak Arnie is Twins. Just incredible charisma and presence.

Yeah fair call, Under Seige is a good action flick. Seagal doesn't make things fun like other action stars do though.

Arnie and Danny De Vito had magnificent chemistry in Twins, it's one that stands up well today.

I agree that Sly became better and ( don't laugh ) but so did Dolph.

    Pretty poignant scene here....

Yes but why then an Austrian accent? And wasn't there a scene of an Armie like figure lumbering around a future battlefield? Even in the 80s setting he stuck out like a Germanic sausage.. T2 far more believable ... Very nondescript...

How dare you try to analyse a classic film with a rational thought process! Suspend belief and enjoy Terminator in all its glory

discussion about all of his best films

bro, an almost unmatched set of credits. ranking them is almost impossible.

    Commando
    Predator
    Conan the Barbarian
    True Lies
    T2
    T1
    Red Heat
    Raw Deal
    fuck, Total Recall!
    The Running Man

Twins and Junior and Kindergarten Cop...

No two rankings are going to be the same

IMO Predator is the best. Vastly better cast than Commando, a worthy adversary and a script that transcends typical 80s action movies. The atmosphere of the jungle, a hidden villain build tension. Matched with immeasurably better cinematography and production values.

Commando is cartoon like in comparison. Huge body count, relentless but predictable action, stereotypical villains, Bennett looks like he is cosplaying as a mercenary. No complication in plot twists or character development getting in the way of endorphin rush.

That said, I doubt Arnie would've had the career he did without Commando. It's the quintessential 80s non-stop over-the-top action movie which effectively portrays Arnie as a slightly more realistic Reagan era superhero. And of course the more quotable lines.

I get what you’re saying, Predator is ‘better’ for the reasons you mention but you pretty much can’t compare them. Both action movies but completely different types. Even though it has an invisible Alien from space it is far less silly than Commando.

Both brilliant, I loved Predator 2 as well, Danny Glover is a great action hero in his own right. Subsequent Predator movies were a mixed bag to put it mildly

Yeah I think Terminator 2 and Aliens had the same formula.

Both were follow ups to absolute classics, turned the action/sfx up several notches while lowering the tension ( both directed by James Cameron as well it must be said ) and created arguably even better films ( emphasis on arguably, all four are absolutely outstanding followed up by some hugely inconsistent efforts, their third instalments were both huge let downs in particular ! ).

The recent Alien movies are far better than the Terminator ones in my opinion though

Oh yeah, Aliens is so much more fun to watch. It knows exactly what it wants to be and executes beautifully

You're not wrong but the first is a masterpiece as well.

Just the one Alien but considerably harder to kill when the crew don't all have state of the art firepower like the marines. Both have absolutely awesome characters, I loved Parker, Dallas and Ash from the first, Hudson, Hicks, Vasquez and Bishop from the second. Ripley is awesome in both too.

    Different types of movie though.
