I have to confess I gave fergburger a miss on my trip to Queenstown last year. I saw the lines and thought fuck that and went somewhere else.

Doesn’t take much to offend people these days, thank goodness the person in question went to the media to tell them how outraged they were

But they didn't say if they enjoyed their burger?

I'm so old I remember when you could get a Fergburger without having to queue.

Perfect illustration of the mindless herd instinct of the social media generation. Queue for fucking ever just so you can say you've had what is a very underwhelming burger.

Still its built the 'Ferg' empire. The bakery, deli and bar are good but nothing is going to match the hype and expectations of the burger.

It's been many years, but I recall the burger being pretty good. I do remember going there at an off peak time because I couldn't be arsed queuing for ages. And that the bakery didn't seem anywhere near as good

    @dogmeat

No restaurant , certainly no fast food restaurant, is good enough to have me queuing out the door if there’s an alternative nearby.

    None.

What is it about Fergburger that got this reputation ? Anyone ?

If there were no lines out the door I would have happily gone to see for myself as I love a good burger ( can recommend Ekim Burger in Welly, outstanding and SUCH good value ) but like @Catogrande there is nothing that will have me lining up for ages when there are loads of other options very nearby.

Reputation probably built on a good product originally (I do have fond memories, it was a very nice burger) blown out of proportion by word of mouth and now social media

    On this again.

If someone is offended these days why is their first instinct to sully the name of the reputation on Social Media ? I've seen the post in question on FB and from the comments it seems there is overwhelming support for "what she went through".

At worst it was some probably bored young fellas on minimum wage acting like dicks. Does it really justify the post ?

As usual you ramble quite a bit but you made your point eventually 😉

Surely despite "the most horrible experience", and "feeling abused" and being "absolutely disgusted" a quiet message to management would be more appropriate ?

it was @Red-Beard who recommended it to me. At that stage the hype was about how fucking large it was - which was true. It was an OK burger , probably better than OK given we hadn't had the explosion of 'boutique' burger places at that time but the balance was all wrong for me. Way, way too much bread. I've never had it again because it took off once FB got hold of it and yeah - queues.

Those burgers have been getting plenty of hype in the media. A pity they weren't around when I stopped at the store a few years back. Much more remote for the average tourist though.

@taniwharugby what's the point of a burger you can't get your gob around?

It sounds like its quality produce but halve the size, knock 40% off the price and you'll sell more at a better margin.
