Babar and Kohli are the biggest myths in this world. Kane is criminally under appreciated globally

    pffft haha what?

A guy that scores an ODI hundred every 5 and a half innings is a myth? he's probably the best 50-over batsman of all time.
His test record is not "all time great" but he still averages 48 and has 30 test hundreds. More importantly than the numbers, his attitude is what dragged this Indian team forward to a side that could win anywhere. How many players go to Australia, play four test matches, score 4 hundreds, and average 86?

He's definitely on the downhill slide out of the test arena, but lets not overdo it aye?

As the discussion is about tests I took it to mean he's a myth in the test arena. He is the GOAT 50 over batsmen no doubt with Babar right on his heels there.

Myth in tests is a bit over the top (but hey it's the Fern) but the hype he has gotten given his record is not even the best Indian player of all time, let alone a world GOAT test batsmen has also been over the top, but that's largely due to him being Indian so he has 1 billion people talking him up.

I do take your point about attitude though, he has been a player that has risen to the occasion against the big teams in hostile conditions where his teammates have just rolled over. But his average in the past decade is 16 runs less than Kane's, 14 less than Smith's, so he's not really in the same conversation in tests.

Fuck Kohli, this is a thread about NZ cricket.

With that in mind let’s celebrate a wonderful occasion back in the day

Coldplay, was a bloody good bowler. He basically carried the BC attack for a few years before the emergence of Southee and Boult.

I guess TVNZ had nothing to offer as it's a bad mistake on NZC's behalf in terms of promoting the game.

I'll miss having the cricket on tvnz, but this was inevitable the moment spark pulled out, tvnz don't have the cash to be involved. I'd be surprised if they were even bidding for the rights.

Hopefully nzc have spent the last couple of years preparing for a revenue drop, and making the most of the inflated price they got from the bidding war.

Probably inevitable, but still gutted. Our junior numbers are up by 34 overall since the start of the 23/24 summer, and girls numbers have about doubled. Free to air coverage of mens and womens games has definitely helped.

Hopefully Sky pushes quite a few of the games to Prime (Sky Open, whatever).

Yeah, I've really enjoyed having super smash on TV. Despite Chromecast making it stupid easy, I still wouldn't bother normally for super smash, but when it's just chucking it on the TV, I basically had it on every day in the background (for both men's and women's games).

I think tvnz's rights include 2025/26 so we'll have one more free to air summer.

@nzzp The soothsayers are almost always right - schedule an international cricket match in Napier during a dry period and it will inevitably rain. Well it started raining here about three quarters of an hour ago, just about as predicted by those investing millions of dollars in forecasting technology. Save money guys, us locals could have done it for free!

Wags made his debut for Otago in 2008 against ND in Dunedin, and finished his first class career in NZ today for ND against Otago in Dunedin.

Even better for us ND fans (the first in 13 years).

Stoked that he gets to hang up his boots on a high with a title.
Had a bit to do with him through my job over the years and he's one of the nicest blokes you could meet.
