Blues v Chiefs

I think McWhannel has a huge upside, is a large body, if he can get an extended run he could be someone for higher honours.

Reckon if Ioane and Sotutu were there blues by 50.
Chiefs raw physicality of bench and changing the halves made the difference. Finau looked awfully naive at international level in 2024 but there’s no denying he’s a unit.
Another enjoyable game.

That passage of play sums up the game
Chiefs far superior
Vern ball ain't gonna work this season
Hopefully, when they're not playing the Chiefs of course, he adjusts his plan, unlike the sister Auckland team the Warriors who persisted with Webbyball after it stopped working, and it looks like he's doing the same this year too.

Not read thread... but Telea did score. Bad decision, but good result ...
Looked to me like his arm was in touch before the ball was grounded. It was tight, but no try was the right decision.
Both of Ratima's knees were on the ground when he connected with Tele'a in the field of play therefore its a penalty try. You must be on your feet to tackle or attempt to play the ball and he stopped a certain try off his feet.
13.3 A player on the ground in the field of play, without the ball is out of the game and must:
a. Allow opponents who are not on the ground to play or gain possession of the ball.
Sanction:Penalty.b. Not play the ball.
Sanction:Penalty.c. Not tackle or attempt to tackle an opponent.

Finally reading this thread...

Carter could be in line for a special season. He looked very good on the wing.
McMillan will have a big decision to make once Stevenson returns.
Carter's ability to go into halfback from rucks and snipe is such a weapon.

Sanction:Penalty.Looking forward to all the desperation diving tackles being penalised because the player was on the ground. As well as every goal line tackle around the ruck as the tackler had his hand on the ground so is off his feet.

Ratima was not a typical scenario. He went sliding in on his knees.

Those shifting goal posts will wreak havoc on dmacs fantasy points.

Found a replay, managed to watch the first half. Good contest, Blues obviously miss Sotutu and Ioane.
Chiefs had the best run with injuries and had a great bench. Seemed to be the difference.
Made it pretty interesting it was a clear tactic to have a real grind and bash for the first half and then finish strong with a lot of movement.
Quite a different take to some chiefs fans alluding to McMillan throwing the towel in.
If blues weren't in a funk when it came to finishing it might have been a different story though.

I think the Chiefs fans were trying to claim the underdog tag early.
Ratima's trysaver was out of this world in fairness. Had Telea scored, we might have had something to hold onto, but the Chiefs took over after that.
