Lomax has a stress fracture and might not be available until Rd 5 or 6.
Aumua had foot surgery before Christmas and hasn't returned to full training yet. Could return for the Drua match.

    Gah, thanks for the update.
Possibly the Canes 2 most valuable players....

I have never heard of any of the Hurricanes First Fives. Do any of them have potential?

You obviously don’t watch the NPC or live under a rock. 😂

Godfrey has been in the squad for three years now so is primed for his opportunity. Plays 10/15 for Hawkes Bay. He’s most people’s preferred choice to get first crack.

Hohepa has been in the Canes environment before and was in the Crusaders last year. Plays for Counties in the NPC but played mostly 12 this year. He’ll likely get the first opportunity in the 10 jersey as Godfrey will likely start at 15.

Harkin plays for Wellington and kicked the winning penalty to clinch the title earlier in the year. He should have got a full squad contract but the Canes ended up signing Cashmore and Hohepa instead.

Cashmore plays for Bay of Plenty and has been in the Blues environment over the last few seasons. Unfortunately he’s out for 10 weeks.

Probably means Patrick Tuifua will be sticking around a lot longer?

He was originally only there as cover until Iose comes back.

Based on his pre season form he’s certainly ready for it.

Interesting in the Laidlaw interview above he didn’t mention anything about Flanders being injured.

I guess Sheilds and Iose is going to get a lot of game time.
Lakai at 7 and replaced by Kirifi is my guess. Delany covering 6.
Another injury and we are really in trouble.

I haven't seen much of Poliko who's been signed at blindside. At 1.90m and 115kg, he's certainly got the size so maybe he's someone that will also step up.

Billy Proctor, Brad Shields, Du Plessis Kirifi and Asafo Aumua will co-captain the Hurricanes.

Innovative from Laidlaw but I like it, means we don't have to shoe horn a particular player into the 15 just because they are captain.

He's building a collective leadership approach making sure all players take account and responsibility for their actions and lead in the right way.

And the Hurricanes are recruiting a comms person again. I reckon I've seen this job pop up yearly. The tasks and responsibilities don't reflect the likely salary for a high-profile gig that also requires substantial weekend work. Good luck to whoever takes it, hopefully the next person doesn't bugger off just before the season starts. Would be a fun role though.

Just a reflection of Avan Lee, seems to be always off the pace when it comes to anything logical.
