Watched a few of Moores bond films over the Xmas break. Very nostalgic for me as I grew up watching his as a kid. Campy as fuck and as they went on it was disturbing to see him get old but the girls he made out with stay young…
Apparently that was one of the big reasons why he stopped playing Bond.
Felt wrong having love interests in their 20s etc while he was old enough to be their dad…If you can find it, check out The Man Who Haunted Himself. A very different Roger Moore and proof he could really act when he wanted to or was given the chance.

Alien 3 is one of the most infamous production around.
It went through several writers and directors. Even once they settled on Fincher the script wasnt even complete.Ward was attached before filming, he had a pretty wild storyline involving Monks on a floating wooden world.
Which was tweaked a bit and ended up being what it was in the end.Fincher at the time was solely known for directing music videos..

Ward still gets a writing credit, although I'm not sure how he feels about the final product. He and Renny Harlin both quit as directors in pre-production.
Fincher has been very vocal:
First-time director David Fincher disowned the film, stating in an interview with the Guardian: "I had to work on it for two years, got fired off it three times and I had to fight for every single thing. No one hated it more than me; to this day, no one hates it more than me". He cited constant studio interference during production, and actually walked out when the studio rejected his initial cut and ordered extensive re-shoots. He was not involved in the final cut, but his initial rough cut later became the basis for the 'Assembly Cut', a longer version of the movie released on DVD in 2003, and on Blu-ray in 2010. Although Fincher was asked to work on this Assembly Cut, he considered it but eventually decided against it, giving supervising producer Charles de Lauzirika his blessing as long as it was not called a 'Director's cut'. With regards to the new version itself, he stated that he has no comments on it, as he has never seen it.

Id be happy to say its the best Alien movie since the original 2TBH, despite enjoying those original two immensely I have no interest in watching any more of them. That day has passed for me.

And confirmed - it was the most recent - which I didn't enjoy that much. It just seemed to be trying too hard with the constant callbacks to original... Roger Ebert: "...it’s disappointing how often Alvarez and company felt like they had to go back to what could be called fan service with lines and easter eggs that feel overly calculated for our referential culture of late."
Whereas Maverick trod that fine-line perfectly - I thought Romulus was massively ham-fisted. I'll give it another go one day, and see if I can switch off the irritation at that part of it. -
i love maverick but i feel it was far from walking a line, if anything it wadded full on over the line, rather than a nod to the original...straight up replicated scenes, the beach, playing the piano, etc

Yeah - it just worked. That's what I mean by walking the line - it was straight up constant references/scenes-from the original - but it somehow didn't feel derivative, or "look how clever we are with this nod/wink", or any of those traps. It just worked. Shoehorn in a ridiculous plot so that we get to see an F-14 - sure, fuck it - why not. Not even going to question it - because now I get to see Tom Cruise in an F-14 against fucking "5th Generation fighters", and I love how ridiculous it is.
Criminally low titwatch, however, considering my teenage crush Jennifer Connelly was in it. -

i kind of felt most people thought the force awakens was ok, some on the nose fan service but they were trying to win back people after the prequels....little did they know how bad it COULD get

The first half is perfectly good. The second half is still watchable.
