Watched the Maylses Rolling Stones documentary about Altamont, Gimmie Shelter.
I'd seen Cocksucker Blues before, which is an interesting document in its own way, but this was more vital in that it emphasized the fucking psychos who would go to a free concert in those days. A lot of dead-eyed Squeaky Fromme types, Hells Angels having a good time beating hippies with pool cues, and a lot of psychos trying to get to the stage.
The black guy who got stabbed was a pimp who pulled a gun and aimed it at Jagger. Hells Angels did well in those circumstances.

The Classic Albums episode on Iron Maiden:
There’s a lot to love about Iron Maiden.
They’re well at that age where lots of groups sound old and tired but can confirm from mates who saw them in Auckland that they still sound sensational and full of energy.
Top notch musos ( all of them, especially Steve Harris ) and Dickinson still has the voice.
Can confirm. They've no right to be playing and moving like they are at their age. Especially Niko given his health issues leading into this tour, and how Bruce can still sing like he does while jogging around the stage is unfathomable. He must have lungs like a blue whale.

Not a Spinal Tap outtake:
Ritchie Blackmore is a legend. Bizarre sense of humour which goes over some people’s heads.
I reckon it probably pisses him off that he is a much better guitarist than Jimmy Page but Page was in a better band.
A ridiculously talented and underrated guitarist.

Nesmith was a genius because he took the socal/texas country rock format and extended it.
Rio builds into a bossanova groove, and uses brazillian jazz harmonies.
What a song.
Well it’s better than his Sunset Sam song at least

Fuck - it took me ages to figure out what I was looking-at/listening-to - but once I clicked, I couldn't hear anything but the names... and I know the song well - to the point where I started doubting it was actually the original song being played.
And now I've gone to listen to the original... I can't hear anything but a stream of names. God dammit. -

Collins is considered one of the best prog rock drummers based on his work with 1970s/80s Genesis, and heaps of drummers cite him as a major influence.
Good enough for Robert Plant to use him on his early solo albums.
Oh I certainly know he has the pedigree it’s just not the first thing I think of. I think of him out front of Genesis or doing his solo stuff.
