Maybe not the right thread, but I can't quite see where else to put it. Trying to figure out has TV rights to the NPC this season across the globe - Sky NZ, and Stan only? I see RugbyPass don't really exist any more....

@Canes4life he did eventually, after his old man took him out of Tawa and sent him into St Pats. He was a bit of a loose cannon apparently (you'd never believe it eh) His sister Brenda went righ through Tawa.
-
@Canes4life I reckon if you went back pre-amalgamation, you could probably swap in a few old-timers from Titahi Bay or Porirua rugby club too.

Is Ken Laban a secret Fern lurker, this thread sounds like his wet dream.
My school could only think of: Jerry Collins (you could probably add Brenda too), Murray Mexted, Scott Couch, Jeremy Kyne (played for Canada)
Not my school but Mana College at a quick punt. There's probably guys before 1990 that I can't Google easily.

I'm pretty gutted it got the a**se, for all its faults it was a nice escape and generally was a good listen. I've probably listening to RS in its various forms Sports Roundup >> Radio Sport for about 30 years. It's definitely been a bit part of the background noise for a while.
I think it lost its way lately, the cost of live sport must have weighed heavily on them, so they cut it back a lot. I remember when they used to carry a lot more, and that's what I really liked. The constant talkback I could take or leave.
I expect it will make a comeback in some form. They'll probably want to leverage of iHeartRadio, carrying all their league, soccerfootball, and rugby coverage primarily on that, and then simulcasting on ZB for the big matches. Whether that will bring in the necessary funds from advertisers is another question though.
Some things I miss from Radio Sport I'd like them to bring back: I can't recall its exact name, but the interview that Graeme Hill would do with past sporting greats (opening with Reelin' in the Years by Steely Dan). Radio Sports/Sports Roundup used to also play those classic clips of old cricketers spinning yarns of tours past, they probably haven't played them in 20+ years though. (Jim Laker(?) describing the tour of the West Indies way back in the day)

A lot of motorsports have got into eRacing, through iRacing on Twitch and other platforms. Most of the actual drivers seem to be onboard too!
Indycar are racing at 4pm ET tomorrow (9am NZT) from Watkins Glen

Watching the NFL parade right now, I'm actually glad Philly won. It really seems to mean something to them. As a neutral, this stuff is pretty cool.
Just watched ESPN 30 for 30 episode Bill and Bill about Parcells and Belichick. Outstanding
Yep, I saw that yesterday too, very insightful. If you want more there's some stuff on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast.

While you're there, check out Madden's Game.

I am super keen to get my third RWC in a row, but am not in a financial position to ballot for tickets right now. Crossing my fingers I'll still be able to get something. Thoughts on how things will pan out later on? I’m not really fussed about which games I go to really.
I was in Japan in 2015 for a couple of weeks and loved it. As was noted, shinkansen makes it really easy to travel quickly and efficiently. Business hotels are often quite affordable and more than adequate.
When i was at Samoa v Scotland in Newcastle, I ended up sitting next to this really passionate Japanese rugby fan. I think a few locals will put on a good show too. He even gave me a little Japan RWC pin, I thought it was a neat gesture.

come to think of it why is it so stupidly quiet at the tennis? another posh holdover from the empire nonsense. fuck it, bark your nuts off during points, have a soccer sing-a-long, some chanting, turn it into a roaring atmospheric cauldron, might even exhort the players on to greater deeds. It's not snooker. The players are just running around outside smashing a ball as hard as they can, not parsing cock valves to aortas in open heart surgery.
although this brilliant idea might fall apart in quietish lulls between the noise when someone abruptly screams "CUUUNT!" during the service action and the poor bastard goes to pieces. Maybe nick the rugby tenet, respect the kicker, respect the server. Once the ball's in play it's all on
I was listening to Australian Open Radio the other day, even the commentators were saying how archaic it was to be so quiet.
They noted that there was an unsanctioned tournament in the US, where you can actually make as much noise as you want. I thought it was a Billie Jean King one, but I can't find any reference to it online. Apparently the players get used to it quickly. Much like that 'respect the kicker' bollocks in the Northern Hemisphere.

I've moved again, so am now learning that Canada actually does some really beer. No, not Labatt Blue, Molson Canadian or any of that mass produced stuff.
Similar to New Zealand there are a lot of smaller breweries in Vancouver, Victoria and the surrounds that produce really tasty batch brews (aka 'craft beer'). None of them really export outside the local area though.
On the downside, 'imported' beer is harder to find. I haven't seen ANY beer from Australia or New Zealand in the bootle stores here, not even the large ones that are usually exported. Apparently it's just too much hassle, also with the import duty slapped on top. There is the odd UK and European brew in the import section though.

No such thing as a fish
A weekly podcast from the QI research team. 4 of them each have a interesting fact of the week, and they then riff of each others facts to fill a 30 minute podcast in front of a live audience each week. Funny, and informational.
Up to 191 episodes now, so a good backlog to work through if you like it.
ha!! I mentioned that about 6 months ago. I've seen them record the podcast, and their BBC TV spin off, So Such Thing as the News. Both excellent.
Incidentally, they're coming to New Zealand next year, worth checking out for sure.

Also, CBC have the rights for Sevens coverage in Canada, and are doing full streams for both men's and women's tournaments on the web and via the CBC Sport app.
I'm sure a bit of IT wizardry could sort you out if you need ....

my girlfriend put me on to Sound Opinions. A few podcasts they did a good one on New Zealand music.
If you like QI, there is No Such Thing as a Fish. A random fact, and a background story that goes with it.
I like Planet Money and Freakanomics radio.
Often my window to listen to podcasts is quite short, so I don't really like anything longer than about 30 mins. The Sports Gambling Podcast is OK, but it's quite long, and they ramble a lot.
Being away from New Zealand, I quite like Radio New Zealand's podcasts.

I had a sip of my friend's Becks Alcohol Free beer today, it was actually better than I expected. It actually vaguely tasted like beer, and not too much like malt beer. (which I can't stand).
One day I might buy a bottle of Brewdog Nanny State, just to see if it's drinkable. Apparently it's one of the better ones.

I forgot to tip, so have added mine late with the first two tips being wrong, is this OK?

There were quite a few big margins in the first round. Will be interesting to see if this is just slow starts or some teams have really dropped off in the off season. My tipping took a hit, only got 4/9 this round.

No ANZAC game in NZ this year. But it's good to see that TVNZ have picked up some coverage.
-

Having been in the UK for a bit now, I don't think anyone up here besides hard core rugby fans and ex-pats give a rats about Super Rugby. This TV times for the Northern Hemisphere is a myth.

However, night rugby certainly does work better for domestic broadcasters and advertisers.
