Can only imagine the conversations he woulda had with Gavin Henson about looking one's best when representing ones country in international rugby.

Strange that Gavin Henson (who was coloured like an oompa loompa) is mentioned the same week that Gene Wilder died - a little creepy to be honest.
-

I got offered free tickets for the premier down here and turned them down

Why would I want to go to what I assume would be the worlds most boring movie about the worlds most boring rugby player -

The mrs wants to see it , she got hooked on rugby when she was involved in the 2011 rwc . I don't want to jinx it by saying no. -

to me it shouldn't be billed as a movie.

Have heard some decent reviews of it, but by all accounts it still misses the mark in terms of giving a true insight into things
-

Pretty sure I just read the same thing, by a female writing under a semi-pseudonym. She's hilarious, and dead on.
-

Please don’t hunt me down and arrest me for treason. I do absolutely accept Richie McCaw as our lord and saviour. But this movie could have been a TV documentary. It could have been a 60 Minutes segment. And just the first half of 60 minutes, not even the full bit. It’s more than 100 minutes.

Was a decent article, and I reckon the 'movie' (doco) is suffering from a lot of the same issues his book does, it just doesn't show enough, they just follow the carefully crafted role model he has become.

Maybe there isn't more to him, who knows, but I guess after a book and a 'movie' we aren't gonna find out too much more until players that have played alongside him start writing books.
-

All Black books aren't exciting unless the AB in question gets hammered, smashes through a window, lies on the ground and just about bleeds to death.

I had to google what a Type A personality is. Safe to say there's none on here.
-
I don't see why the doco should have drama. The bloke is a great rugby player, it's cool to see how he goes about achieving what he has and thats plenty good enough for me. I think his Mrs put it best that the most extraordinary thing about him was that he was so ordinary..and that's a good thing. Leave the juicy gossip and personal revelations for those shitty womens magazines I say.
-

I guess, like that metro reviewer, I'm surprised that they've made a movie that you have to go to the cinema to watch. I guess I'm picturing something not unlike, "The weight of the nation", and a TV doco would seem to fit better in my mind. Is it being released anywhere other than NZ?

Mind you, I'm just an ordinary bloke (like Richie) so what would I know. But, in keeping with my "Richie-like" world view, I'll doubtless wait to watch it on Sky early next year. :)
-

Yeah, I think that's close to the mark. He's not really a controversial person, not one that has lapped up the media spotlight, he really hasn't been embroiled in episodes that have required a "please explain" that make for "compelling viewing", he hasn't tried to turn himself into a martyr/saint/victim etc that again script writers can run all day with. I think he's been an extraordinary rugby player and it's been through rugby that he has captured the "hearts and minds". In this day and age there is a natural fascination to understand who he is now that he has finished his long career. Not necessarily movie material in my eyes but worthy of a TV special probably....
