@Stargazer Canterbury choose Hawke's according to that info.
Waikato and Taranaki like to play each other as a traditional fixture and for the Ryan Wheeler Memorial Trophy.
Yep, in the first round, Canterbury had the 5th pick, with only the Magpies, Otago and Counties remaining. Canterbury picked Otago in the third round.

@Nepia I blame Taranaki for picking the Steamers in the second round. The second round of picks was our only chance of picking the Steamers for a home Battle of the Bays.
We are still known as the bay until then thank you :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:
Nepia does make a valid point that at least there is a battle of the Bays. Why we chose to play you though is beyond me, its asking for trouble!
At least Southland chose us

I'm glad we decided we wanted to go to Ta$man again to face the defending champs...

You didn't choose us. You had the last pick and we were the only team left.

@Stargazer ha ha now that makes more sense
-
@taniwharugby maybe similar to us having to choose Hawkes?

You had the choice between Ta$man and the Steamers.

@Stargazer Obviously the Treasurer still had his gate takings budgeted revenue hat on then as well. No comparison when comparing Wellington against the rather obscure combined Golden Bay-Motueka/Nelson/Marlborough outfit.
I have it on good authority that for a prank, Steve Tew put his hand over the Wellington option on the board when the Hawkes Bay selection committee came into the room. They had to adjourn twice to the underwear department at Hallensteins until Steve removed his hand!

@Stargazer You'd think the Barrett's were contracted even though they won't play....
-
@DrivingMaul Yes, indeed. At least Beauden and Jordie (Scott's contract expires next year).
I found this the most interesting bit from the media release:
Halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi will re-join his family in the Bay of Plenty next season after notching up 41 matches for Taranaki. Both players were selected for the All Blacks while playing for the amber and blacks and played 26 and 3 tests respectively.
("both" refers to Waisake Naholo and TTT)

Taranaki look to be investing in their youth. A sensible option.
