State of Yawnigan ..

This is hilarious. Queensland have been out on their feet for 15 minutes and somehow hit the front.
-
Don't get swept, celebrate like you won the series.

Start organising the championship parade....

In Bangkok, watched the game in an Aussie themed bar that seemed to have a fair number of nsw supporters and ladyboys. Very strange. Not every day you see NSW supporters.

Without Bromwich, Harris, Proctor, Mannering, Taumalolo, Matulino, Eastwood, Taupau (basically all the forwards) SOO is a second rate event. -

What bar are you in ?
-

State of Origin means fuck all in NZ now .. well in my experience anyway.

I did see the news about the NSW team walking off during the speech form QLD captain?

I haven't watched a full SOO game this century. I enjoyed the matches during the 1980s and 90s with plenty of Raiders players in action and some biff. Now only the diehard RL fans really care.

So did Jennings save Daley's job?

Gould is already <strike>waxing</strike> wanking lyrical about the Blues. Yawn.
-

This thread is awesome, curiously none of said awesomeness is about league in the slightest.

Great to see Raz back, I'll be cautious and assume every woman who hits on me in a pub is a ladyboy and NTA has convinced me to rewatch a classic 80's action flick !
-

The refereeing was interesting to say the least. I can't ever remember a player being sinbinned but not conceding a penalty, which is what happened to Fifita last night. I thought the referees were very harsh on QLD and allowed the Blues to get away with murder. In saying that it was a cracking try to win the game with 90 seconds left.

Lead by Paul Gallen, what else do you expect?

Hahahaha: https://www.facebook.com/NRLHumour/videos/vb.359074060812727/1057888564264603/?type=2&theater
-

That was an astounding ruling. There were a few others that i thought were rough, but that just seemed wrong. How can a bloke in a 4 way run to the line, who gets in front of a defending player, be judged to have no impact on the play?

Massively lop-sided penalty count leading to a massive advantage in field position and possession, and you still need a late try to win. It's not quite the renaissance that some would like to believe.

Given tonight, i think both teams could look quite different next year. NSW are obviously going to head down a youth path, and rightly so, those guys have been their best. But i think a few Qld forwards may have come to the end of the road as well. Parker has obviously already gone, but i think Myles, Lilyman and Thaiday have had their time, and Guerra just isn't good enough.
-
NSW should be able to peg a few wins back in the coming years. Queensland lack some forward options plus I like the new talent for NSW.

- Tedesco 2. Ferguson 3. Bird 4. Dugan 5. Mansour 6. Austin 7. J. Reynolds 8. Woods (c) 9. Peats 10. Fifita 11. Cartwright 12. Frizell 13. Jackson Bench: 14. Moylan 15. Tamou 16. Klemmer 17. Yeo

No Farah, Gallen, Greg Bird etc? I can support that.

Awesome, if this is true, then Gallen is a massive, massive, sook, and it's some expert level sledging.

The NSW blokes walked off during the speeches because:

“The Queenslanders picked on him and suggested that he was responsible for the losing culture, they’ve only won one series out of 11. And it was his farewell party, yet there weren’t that many fans there, there were only 61,000 people out there at (82,000 capacity) ANZ Stadium

Was it my imagination or was Gallen voted as having the best individual performance in Origin history some years back ?

I personally don't get the blind hatred so many seem to have for him, perhaps I would if I watched league like I used to.
-

I think Gallen is a solid and reliable player and I'd be stoked if he played for the Warriors or Queensland, but at some point you can't ignore the fact that he's probably the least successful captain in Origin history. While some of that comes down to the fact that Queensland had a freakishly good team, they really blew their chances in some of the series' that perhaps might have gone a different way under a different leader. A quote from James Hooper, a sports journo in Aussie re the Smith snub sums Gallen up for me.

"The way I see it, that's simply sour grapes," Hoopah said. "Paul Gallen's legacy as a footballer ... look, I think he's going to be remembered primarily as a bad sport surrounding a lot of things.

"If you look at the classy sports people around the world - the Roger Federers, the Steve Waughs, those types of characters - they're statesmen, they're leaders in every essence of the word. Cameron Smith's certainly one that springs to mind in rugby league.

"But in the case of Paul Gallen, you can go back over his career - whether you want to be grabbing opposition players on the wheels (testicles), racially vilifying opposition players, the peptides, all that sort of jazz - the rap sheet's a mile long.

"In this instance I just feel it is really poor taste and poor sportsmanship and I think Queensland and the game of rugby league is going to remember Paul Gallen for all the wrong reasons for a long, long time."

That said, half of the Queensland team were fucking around during Smith's speech as well. Nate Myles and Corey Oates, who were standing right next to Corey Parker while Smith was summing up his contribution were busy laughing, joking, throwing towels and things through the camera shot, so it's hardly like Smith's speech was rousing his own team as well!
