@African-Monkey I wouldn't complain. Chuck Wiseguy Faiane and Plummer in the mix next year. Replacing Jono Hickey with a half-decent halfback wouldn't hurt either.

Judging by some of the articles I've read lately about Fijian rugby players getting into immigration visa troubles - which totally scuttles their pro careers basically anywhere.
I think the only really viable way for them to go the professional career route via a NZ domestic path is if they start on an education Visa, so this is indeed great for their careers.

Rotorua Boys' High School players set to join Rugby Southland academy system
It is understood Rugby Southland had five players in their sights but three school leavers are likely to join the the academy system next year and play club rugby in the province. Rugby Southland is one of many unions who now scour the country looking at the country's best young talent. Saunders felt building relationships with certain schools may be the best approach for a union like Southland rather than trying to pick up players from all different schools. "It's a new theory we have had this year is to build small relationships with a couple of schools. We've also built a wee relationship with Christchurch Boys' but we haven't been able to get anyone from there. -

Fair enough for him to take the money.
From a Chiefs/AB fan perspective, if that is most important to him, glad we didn't sign him. Anyone coming in will have to serve some time as a dirty dirty getting paid SFA, with a future pay off if they work out.
I can understand taking the money (I might have done it) but if you don't really want to be an AB, I doubt you will be.
