While it's easy to suggest McCaw was too driven to consider the other team much while reflecting on his own team's accomplishments. A fair bit of it must come down to having an intellect that avoids cliches and responds to the journalist's questions.

I mean "all credit to them, they played well" is a stupid statement. Anyone who knows anything about the game could see that the opposition either did or didn't and the scoreline will tell you which team took their chances. Invariably the winner on the scoreboard is the better team.

Nah, removed myself three years ago. Felt like we had too many, and I'd become very boring as a poster since becoming a mod. Don't tell me you'd started a thread in the mods' forum (if one happened to exist  ) 2 years ago and you're still waiting for me to reply?
-
Break ups can be very hard sometimes.

Who is Matthew Ridge?

-

I'll throw another out there - Ali Williams - the media seemed to lap him up cos he provided a bit of a change of pace for them in press conferences/interviews but to me he didn't come across as funny, but rather someone who thought he was funny, an arrogant knob would be more accurate. The smug look on his face and his often condescending tone weren't a good combination imo.

I think Veitch hosted a show once which he walked out on after having bad hair. I'm not sure, though, maybe I need to check one of the 45,000 times it's been posted to me on social media to check.
-

Richie McCaw. Should be put in a glass case that says "Break in case of Rugby/Aviation".

Personality of a dial tone, which I'm not sure is either a defense mechanism for privacy, or just the fact he's a boring git (I've been told both).

Also, maybe due a lack of practice, is a poor losing captain interview post-match. The rare times I've seen it, his general tone is "we were shit" and almost never "they played really well and deserved it". Though really, that could be anyone here ;)

First noticed when I think the Clan (or Canes) played a really good game years ago to beat the Crusaders, and he basically didn't mention them at all. Sometimes the questioning doesn't go that way from the interview, but mostly seems to be him.

I quite often read this on Green and Gold about Richie not kissing the opposition's arse, and one of the things I liked about his after match interviews. I used to hear Fitzy giving credit to opposition, and personally not a great fan, I want the captain of my team to be telling me where his team went wrong etc during game, and would prefer the other captain to do same.

Someone who has improved in that facet is Michael Hooper, he has actually said some real intelligent things on what his team has done right or wrong a few times, and that what I like, he shouldn't be making judgements on the other team, he doesn't know what they meant to be doing.
-

That was Marc Ellis at his best ( I had a beer with him at Matterhorn years ago, nice fella although as a 7th former he did chuck my mate, 3rd form at the time, in a rubbish bin which we laughed about years later, Ellis paid for the beer as a way of saying sorry which I told my mate about.... ). Class comedy.

As far as I know Ridge hasn't broken any woman's back so is further up the cocksucker chain than Veich who as a sports "personality" probably doesn't qualify for this list. I think I remember Ridge having a real go at TV when all the revelations came out about that, saying he would never work with him again so kudos to Ridge for that at least.
-

I went to a Sports Café Annual Awards one year. All the stars were there and met and had a beer with many. Ellis was a lad but was OK until he got totally wasted

I shared a table with a group of women who went to Jamaica to support the Silver Ferns at the NWC basically for a booze trip but they ended up playing Jamaica B - they won some award - They were scathing about McCaw. They lived in the Hakataremea so had approached him for anything they could raffle for fund raising. He sounded like a total knob - perfectly consistent with not standing drinks at his 21st. He sounded in McAwe of his own magnificence as they described him.

Took me a few years to warm to him after that, but he seemed to grow out of it.
