Found this interesting. Firstly for the fact that Indian sports officials think they're bigger than the sport. Whodathunkit?

Secondly that a country with a quarter of the world's population has no medals.

https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.smh.com.au/sport/olympics/rio-2016/olympics-off-the-field/rio-olympics-officials-warn-india-your-delegation-is-pushy-and-rude-20160812-gqrld8.html?client=ms-android-telstra-au

Tuke and Burling have just won a race by a considerable margin. No idea if it's a medal race or not as there is no commentary, but some fullas dressed in kiwi suits are in party mode on the beach.

Edit, something just flashed up on screen saying it was race two.
How many races are there?

Generally 10-12. Finishing 1st gives you one point, 10th gives you ten points. Lowest overall points wins and you can discard your worst races.

Watching some swimming for the first time (I've finally managed after 6 days to switch to a channel showing swimming, and it is actually showing swimming rather than medal ceremonies, miraculous).

The atmosphere, or rather the tv coverage seems really flat. I don't feel like I'm in the stadium, but instead watching through a really thick sound buffering window.

This isn't a gripe about the sky broadcast. It seems that the in-pool noise is a constant hum of PA announcements, and fucking pop music. Can barely hear the crowd. And no one thinks to change the sound settings for the minute or two that the race is on (although I think the PA may be blaring out commentary during the race as well?).

Maybe this vanilla IOC broadcast wants to hide any booing? Basically can't hear the crowd either before, during, or after the races.

Fuck me you blokes like to complain

I've watched almost every minute of every swimming session and the commentators have constantly mentioned the atmosphere inside the stadium is one of the best they have experienced

Several races have had to delay starts because the crowd isn't quiet enough for the athletes to hear the start buzzer.

USA women's soccer team bow out after their fifth penalty shot wasn't even on goal. Was 3-3 up until that stage but they shanked it and Sweden are through.

Aussie girls play Brazil today for the right to advance and face the Swedes.

And Channel 7 are still playing FUCKING GOLF instead of showing some obscure event we don't see much of. Golf in the Olympics is bullshit.

But what's your point? I'm saying the crowd noise doesn't come accross because of the sound settings on the broadcast (these settings probably determined by the PA and music white noise). It makes for a poor tv watching experience.

    Wondered the same thing.

Difficult to google.official Rio website and app bloody hard to follow.

Found the following. Check competition schedule.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailing_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics

For 49ers 12 races then the "medal race" for the top 10 which counts double. Can exclude 1 worst result (but not the medal race). Lowest combined placings wins.

Those comments by Solo earned an appropriately dismissive response from the Sweden coach:

"The Sweden coach, Pia Sundhage, led the US to gold and the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and was dismissive of Solo’s outburst. “I don’t give a crap,” she told reporters after the game. “I’m going to Rio, she’s going home.”" (from The Guardian)

Aah. There was comment about the US tactics under "Pia". Sounds like some history there.

GB men's team pursuit gold and WR - awesome race, real nailbiter. Australia came so close, but just didn't have enough in the tank to spoil Wiggins' date with destiny.
