Can i whinge about kicking the ball out of the ruck and the dodgy first try? I don't want to as the better team won. But doesn't help. :(

Welcome to life as a Wallabies fan - wanting to whinge about the ref, but fully knowing the best side on the day won...
-

Well done Aussie. Clearly the better team. Great ball movement, whereas we tended to take the contact too much.

This sounds fucking ridiculous and 20:20 hindsighty, but we'd have been better off at 5-10 and 6 vs 7 and on attack to have kicked the ball into touch, got Woodman back, and then game on with Aussie having a defensive lineout.

Instead, turnover, try and skull fucked. Woodman spent about 4 minutes of game time in the bin.
-

You know earlier on when we described sports we would get rid of if we ran the IOC? I would like to put forward Water Polo. That's not a sport, that's mates on a saturday arvo mucking around at your house. At the very least they should change the rules so that you have to play with a beer in one hand, and that beer must never be empty. Reserves should be on the sideline cooking on the BBQ.

Spoken like a man who wouldn't last 30 seconds in a game of real waterpolo :)

I've always been a swimmer and took up waterpolo a few years back as a kind of social sport, first game we played the police team. In my first 20 seconds in the pool I had a bloody nose and had been punched so hard in the ribs I could hardly breathe
-

Someone punching you underwater in the ribs so hard it made your nose bleed ? who was on the other team ? George Fucken Foreman ?

It's all personal opinion though, there's heaps of sports that don't float my boat, Water Polo amongst them but like anything it still requires skill/fitness and all of that. Each to their own, I'm sure it has it's following.

Speaking of which Darts should definitely be there.
-

2 separate incidents, I thought it was pretty clear

an elbow to the nose and a punch to the ribs.
-

Have only played it once, at a time when I was the fittest in my life, physically hardest game I ever played. (I don't do endurance cycling or shit like that, as sport is supposed to be fun).

Don't get any water polo hate. The pool is already built, and the medal won't be won twice by a Michael Phelps only shooting with his left hand, then 3 days later only with his right hand. -

Aw ok, I guess the other team was anti cyclist :fishing:

again, I've watched little of it but if it were up to me I'd abolish every single swimming discipline except freestyle. Based on that logic why don't they have a 100 metre "hop" in athletics ? a 50 metre "walk on your hands?" etc ?
-

it's a bloody tough sport

Freedom's Fury is a great documentary about the 1956 olympic waterpolo match between Hungary and the USSR.

Set against the backdrop of the 1956 hungarian revolution, there were stories of the pool turning red with blood.
-

I haven't watched any water polo, but as I flicked through the channels I saw the pre-start of one game and they were playing national anthems. Why?

Same deal with today's sevens rugby final?

They don't play everyone's anthem at the start of the cycling road races.

It's the Olympics - you get your anthem when you win, or not at all.
-

I saw an interview with Martin Johnson and the big fella argued Darts is a "sport".....after all the "athletes" are on stage under hot lights etc and have to maintain the skill and discipline over a long time. Sure they'd keel over if they jogged up a flight of stairs but try getting a 1500 metre runner to land a 180.
-

Yes - I believe the acknowledgement was "We Owned The NZ team".

TBF, that may not have been a player that said that.
-

Justice! Football Ferns captain Erceg has been cleared of any wrong-doing and her red card has been rescinded!

pffft, so it sounds exactly like mucking around in the back yard with your mates then...

If we are including all sports i wouldn't last 30 seconds in, then the program needs to grow by a week (and include sex).

i never said excel, i said he went to the games in the water polo team

(the rest of the story was him on the piss for the weekend, then finding out the rule that EVERYONE in the team had to play at least a minute, so he jumped in to the pool, and hung on to the edge, then jumped out. job done, back on the beer).

I've played beach cricket and bowled and fielded with a beer in hand, not batting though, I take that pretty seriously. By that logic should the BCs do the same against SA in the upcoming test series ?
