I hope Venus and Daniell got a nice welcome home too. Winning the first tennis medal at an Olympics for NZ since Anthony Wilding in 1912 is special
Time to be pedantic. Anthony Wilding did not win his bronze medal in 1912 for New Zealand as we did not field a team that year. All New Zealanders that went to those games competed as part of the team called Australasia. Shades of the current Russian competitors not being part of the Russia Team by being designated stateless and consigned to represent the Russian Olympic Committee rather than the country called Russia!!!
On a more serious note ne sacrificed his life at the Battle of Aubers Ridge at Neuve Chapelle in northern France when aged just 31.

Nyika into the SF so guaranteed a medal.
I missed it as the Sky on screen schedule is all fucked up from the delays.
When is the SF scheduled for?
Nyika's SF is on Tuesday at 3:18 pm NZT.

Thanks for the clarification. So that is why media said it was NZs first ever tennis medal. He remains as our only Wimbledon champion, and one of so many to be tragically lost in the Great War as you say.

Best result of the night, Alexander Zverev comes from a set down to beat Novak Djokovic.
How does this work "The top-ranked Serb lost to Alexander Zverev of Germany 1-6 3-6 6-1 in the semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics tennis tournament"
It was said up thread that Olympics are best of three, only grand slams are 5, so 1-6, 3-6 is game over, why the other 1-6? Confused? Or is Olympic gold a slam? Even if it is that's 2 losses and then a win, did they play the last set for fun?Oh I see, stuff stuffed it actually "Wow. Not many would have seen this coming after Novak Djokovic won the first set 6-1, but Alexander Zverev turned the match on its head to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-1! As Djokovic heads off court, Zverev takes it all in, practically alone in the arena."
Fucking stuff
What happened to the German? I thought he specialized in bottling it on the big stage? Novak won't be a happy chappy but he'll get to cry into his multiple gold cups and estimated 220 million of winnings..

Wasn't New Zealand part of Australasia? The athletes were still reported as Australians or New Zealanders.

I wonder how much he actually cares about the Olympics. Andy Murray on the other hand has won two golds.
