Huh? Has the athletics started already? It's normally in the second week?

Couldn't watch the first day of sevens, but the NZ women have started with two strong wins against two minor teams.

In their first game, the NZ women trashed Kenya 52-0 (tries: Woodman 3, McAlister 2, Manuel, Broughton, Williams). In their 2nd, they beat Spain 31-5 (NZ tries: McAlister 2, Nathan-Wong, Woodman, Fitzpatrick).

At 2.30am (NZT) tonight*, they'll play France, but they have already qualified for the quarter finals. Also qualified for the QF are Aus, GB, France and Canada.

The Aussies beat Colombia 53-0 and Fiji 36-0. Team GB beat Brazil 29-3 and Japan 40-0. France beat Spain 24-7 and Kenya 40-7. Canada beat Japan 45-0 and Brazil 38-0.

It's clear that the more interesting games will be played on days 2 and 3.

The women looked impressive. First time I have really watched them and they have a very good set of skills. I think the Aussies were more impressive. It will have to be a huge effort if we run into them.

The good news is that we shouldn't play them till the final (unless there's an upset at some point anyway).
-

Football Ferns beat Colombia 1-0 :good: but the ref apparently got sucked in by a dirty cheating dive from one of the Colombians and our captain got sent off, ruling her out of the next match if they can't get it overturned!! :ireful:

I flicked that on just in time to see the incident. I'm far from knowledgeable in the rules of soccer, but even I could see that was an absolute howler of a decision. Its an absolute travesty if she misses a game because of that. The bloody cheating coke cook and the ref need to be red carded instead! -

Player suspensions in these situations will help curb it

Possibly some of the worst refereeing you'll ever see

Not your finest moment Gladys

I don't think what the Colombian player did was that bad. Both players went for it and there was contact. More the referees fault than the player's.

Come on, she couldn't have hit the deck quicker if she tried, and why? Her hand touched the other girls?

It was a BS act but sadly the way the game is reffed this is encouraged
-
The Aussies have started well in the pool, so the wankfest is in full swing.

Heads up guys, you're one of two countries who give a fuck about swimming.

Loved our Archery team winning bronze, love it when a medal comes out of left field like that.

Best result of day 1 for me was the Boomers putting the French to the sword, which surprised me. Frogs have a decent team - Parker, Gobert, Diaw, Batum to name a few. If we snag a medal it will be a great achievement.
