21.03m so far they are 2nd and 4th highest qualifying. Great result.

Gill not quite a PB, but 3cm off his best ever.

Walsh threw 21.03m, looked within himself as he set up his feet not using the full back of the circle. a "safe" throw.

20.40m or better qualifying for the shot final is the highest standard in Olympic history. So both our boys have done v well. Walsh should get a medal.

Gill has historically been a bit flaky under pressure at senior level. Being in 13th position (so not qualifying) going in for his 3rd round, to pull out a throw like that was really great. Hopefully its a big breakthrough for him regardless of what goes on tonight.

Woken up to a silver from the Women's 470 and the obvious gold from the Men's 49ers. Nice. The men didn't even need to win but did anyway.

Women's 49ers FX up now. Just gotta beat Spain, Brazil and Denmark for gold, two of them for silver and one for bronze.

Tactical mistake-Brazilians made up ground on the left of the course, but we were still ahead at the 4th mark (I think, I'm tired). We should have immediately gone left around the mark too-but split and then they passed us....congrats both teams for doing very well.

I was more talking what they were eating would play havoc on them, high fat, salt, sugars whereas most of them would have specific controlled diets, i know they are letting thier hair down, but surely spend a bit of time visiting herb.

I don't think it would TR. Yeah it sounds extraordinary to think what they're putting in that amount of saturated fats, salt and refined sugar, but having a binge after burning up a hell of a lot of energy building up to their events and then the actual competing would mean a big burst in 'energy' would be more about bringing some equilibrium.

Plus they'll need the extra energy boost for the partying and extracurricular activities thereafter.....
