I watched the QF Aussie vs Serbia girls Bball last night. What a game by Serbia. I thought they would crumble at the death, but it was OZ who tightened up. OZ didn't respect the ball and turned it over a million times. Serbian guard Ana Dabovic was on fire. Her mid range game stunned the Aussies I think.

The men's QFs starting tonight are going to be massive. All 4 teams from Pool B finished on 8 points, just points diff separated them. The Boomers play Lithuania and the Nth America vs Sth America is back with Argies v USA. That is going to be firey and the crowd will be in the Argies corner. -
GB is a medal factory at the moment. I remember when they were a laughing stock in the 90s Olympics. Not just cycling they are winning medals left right and centre.

Another fucking choke by Australian Olympians. -

Burling and Tuke have pretty much guaranteed a gold medal. They're 34 points ahead of the Germans now.

The results in the 49er FX Women race weren't as good but Maloney and Meech are still only one point behind the Spaniards, Brazilians and Danes, who are all tied for first on 46 points. It makes the medal race on Friday pretty simple, as those four will basically just be racing each other. Beat the other three three and you get gold, get beat by the other three and you don't get anything.

And finally, the Kiwi pair won the Nacra 17 Mixed medal race with ease but it wasn't enough to get a medal, so they finish in fourth. Still some great work in that race though.

Women's 470 will start the medal race in the silver medal position. Great recovery job as they had two disqualifications. Without those they'd probably be in the gold position because they won at least one (and I think both) of the DQ races. Instead they're no chance of gold, but they're pretty clearly the best of the rest, so with a bit of luck they'll medal - it's very tight though.
-

I liked them better when they were game and popular losers.

I suppose on the plus side, they're winning a lot of medals that used to go to Australians. :)
-
The worst Olympic nation has to be India. 1.3 billion and not a single medal.

I suppose the hockey. Outside bet but it's possible. -

Tom Walsh also still a chance I think - heard Jacko Gill the other night saying he thinks Tom is going to win.
-

The sailing 49ers. They aren't sitting. -
What is the point of the keirin?

Yeah, I just saw that a bit earlier. I'd pretty much written them off, so I couldn't bring myself to watch their races, but they've done an incredible job turning things back around.

India don't want it to be one anyway, they voted down a possible bid a few years back. God forbid the sport grows in other countries and possibly threaten the vice-grip India have around the sports neck.
-

I wondered that myself. Although tow the bikes behind a Hayabusa and I reckon you've got a spectator sport!
-
Watching McCarthy in the pole vault.

The super slow mo as the girls go over the bar is amazing, maybe it's the movement of the long hair that makes that shot stand out more than when watching the men's comp.

It's like they pause at the top and then flick away the pole. Well, actually that is exactly what they do ..... Just normally can't discern that at normal, or normal slow-mo, speeds. -

apparently her poles, you know that important part of pole vaulting only arrived for her to use yesterday, despite sending them supposedly with plenty of time!

looks at photos. Inserts dirty pole joke

I can empathise with this guy. I would have exactly the same problem if I tried pole vault.
-

A few thoughts:

Lisa Carrington sure lifts a dull day at work

Burling/Tuke well done you came to the party

Nick Willis an outside medal prospect

Hockey Chicks must be a fair chance for revenge against GB in the semi

Shit, Willis left it late

Are there any weightlifters who are clean

Mark Cavendish (GB cyclist who caused crash) has previous form, further taints cycling image

The main athletics stadium is still half-empty
